I'm looking for opinions on Mickey's Philharmagic, Honey I Shrunk The Audience (and any other 3D shows at WDW that I'm blanking out on right now, lol), from people without depth perception.

My 7yo daughter is blind in one eye, and as such, has no depth perception. She cannot see the 3D parts of 3D movies.

Will she enjoy Mickey's Philharmagic without being able to see the 3D effects? Is the story/show interesting without those effects? You know, sometimes those 3D shows have no real storyline, they're just about the effects. If these shows are that way, we'll avoid them, but if the story is good, she'll likely still enjoy it.

Thank you!

My dad is also blind in one eye so I just asked him what he thought and he says that the shows are still interesting for him. There are lots of other things that happen too that don't involve 3D. Hope you have a great time :sunny:

My dad does not have depth perception, but he actually said he could see some of the 3D stuff in Philharmagic. Not sure why, because he cannot see it in Honey I Shrunk the Audience or at The Muppet 3D Movie. He says he still enjoys those though!

Even if your daughter can't see the 3D effects in Philharmagic though, I think she will definitely still enjoy it. It does have a story and it's really neat seeing all the characters from different movies interacting together.

Not sure about Honey I Shrunk the Audience, the main thing there is the effects. The Muppet 3D movie is cute though and I would think enjoyable even without the effects.

I have limited depth perception, and I loved Philharmagic. I just didn't notice when things were upposed to be popping up in front of me. Take her to see it. She'll love it.

My DH has never been able to see any of the 3D effects at Disney. When he was at his latest eye exam, he was told he had no depth perception - which is obviously the problem. He's not blind, or even close to being blind. He does wear corrective lenses though. Sometimes, if he sits towards the back he can see the effects just a little. Try that.

One important thing to remember is that she should wear the 3D glasses in order to make sense of the film. :3dglasses Otherwise the whole screen will just be blurry. While wearing the glasses, the film should look more or less like a traditional 2D movie.

I have no depth perception and I still enjoy the show. When everyone gasps I just figure something is happening.

If I sit up close the 3D bothers me so I closed one eye during the show at times and it really helped. Because this is a new 3D show, it seemed like it popped out more than Honey I Shrunk the Audience ( I tried the same one eye procedure there too). Because the effects are also smell and feel (water) related, I think she will still like it, plus the characters and music will be familiar. It is my favorite show!

i'm blind in one eye and "thought " i saw the 3 d but since i don't know what it's "supposed" to look like how can i really tell?

:rotfl: :rotfl:

i like them anyway what ever way i see them( ???1.5D???)

I can never really see the 3D effects very well. They all just look like a blurry double image to me. I wear normal glasses, but even with them on or off, it's still a blur. Doesn't seem to matter where I sit, I can't see the 3D effects. When we go, my family will be next to me screaming in delight at the 3D effects while I still there puzzled looking at the blurs on the screen!

But even so, I still go to all the 3D shows - you pick up enough to enjoy them anyways. :)

I am blind in my right eye- I have no sight as I have a detached retina. Anyhow, I still enjoy the 3-D shows. I do wear the glasses because w/o them the effects have that colored outline. With them I don't see 3-D but at least everything isn't double anymore either.

Actually, I find it amusing to watch everyone trying to grab things in front of them and that. DH & I have had a long conversation about this, because I really wanted to know what they were seeing. I just couldn't grasp the idea that it really did look like they items were right in front of them.

Even w/o being able to see 3-D, I find Mickey's Philharmagic incredible.

Don't forget that this movie... like all those at Disney... is what they call 4D. It's not just about visual effects. There are smells and other interactive elements that are lots of fun!

Are you wearing the special glasses provided in the theater? You must wear these glasses even if you have your own glasses. If you still see a double image, then your eyes need to become acclimatized to the movie and my present suggestion is to see the movie again and again while trying to focus on the picture. Even so, a small number of people will get dizzy and for them the best thing to do is close one eye and forego the 3D effects.

Oh, forgot to say that - yes, I always got them glasses on! I tried the 3D glasses with and without my normal glasses, and it makes no difference! All the effects are a double image blur, or just looks flat on the screen with a bit of a blur. I seen all 3D shows numerous times, and my eyes just don't see things "sticking" out towards me. I always wondered why these shows were so great if everyone was seeing what I was seeing! I might add that my eyes don't see equal (one sees better than the other; I wore an eyepatch for many years as a kid to correct it but it didn't work - ugh!!!) so that might explain my poor vision! :earseek:

Absolutely do NOT skip these shows. My 8 year old son has nystagmus and has no depth perception. He loves the 3D shows. You've gotten some good feed back from adults who can really verbalize what they can and can't see. I'm not sure if DS even realizes that he's missing out on anything. He wears the glasses just like everyone else, laughs when others laugh, screams when others scream. We don't even talk about what he might not be seeing. As we see it....what's magical for him, is magical for him even if it's different from what is magical for us.

Have fun!! :thewave:

ok now this has got me wondering. i am legally blind in my left eye ( eye chart? what eye chart? type of thing) but when it is the 3d thing i think it looks different. bigger for sure. and i think it looks closer...so is that what the 3 d is supposed to look like or not? i mean it is obvious to me it is not the usual movie thing.not like i wonder why they are laughing but maybe i just "figured" it was 3 d since i have always seen it that way? ( maybe that is like tellin someone with no vision what "blue" looks like though)
