Anyone here moved to Florida?

I moved from Chicago to San Diego, CA when I was 13. Being a minor, I didn't really have any choice.. but I was glad to move to San Diego, because it's only about 75 minutes from Disneyland. I never visited Disneyland until then, because Orlando was only a 2.5 hour flight from Chicago.. and we went just about every year.. and a few years, we went more than twice a year. So I've always been a Disney child.

I can't give you much information on living in Florida, though sometimes I do with that I lived there rather than California!

If you want to move somewhere, I'd suggest giving it a lot of research. Take a trip to Disney for 2 weeks. One week, stay off-site and explore around Orlando. Check out local supermarkets, public schools if you have children who will be attending them, parks, and any other things that may be of interest to you (possible places of worship if you are looking for one, length of time to get to a beach, etc.).. and the second week just enjoy Disney on-site.. because I could never go to Orlando without seeing Disney!

Not sure where to post this, I thought this forum might be a better place. Here is the original thread:

You don't want to move here. It's hot in the summer, too cold in the winter. Snakes and alligators are everywhere outside of Disney property, except where the mosquitos and tsetse flies keep them away. We have gang violence in the elementary schools. Stay away.

:headache:

Um... you're nuts if you are moving just for disney.

We had to move because of my husbands job-they transferred him, and I love where I live and I love the weather and everything, but don't expect to find a job easily, there aren't many to be had, and they don't pay well.

The wildlife is quite interesting, the fire ants and yellow flies are a pain... literally.

There are some things that are a lot cheaper, other things (like grocereies for us) that are much more expensive.

NOBODY (well in our opinion other than us) knows how to drive, the other drivers are ridiculous, they have no regards for basic traffic laws. I don't think the actual traffic is that bad, I grew up in northern va so we had washington dc rush hour traffic, so compared to that its not bad. And everything is so spread out.

Disney did get old for us quick and we preferred it as a vacation rather than an afternoon passtime.

I know it sounds like I hate it here, but I really don't, there are just certain things I really hate about it. I definitely wouldn't have moved here just to be close to disney though.

Exactly, Florida is a hellhole. Everybody needs to stay away.

Everything depends on what you're looking for and doing a lot of research. We moved here 5 1/2 years ago when I retired and did a lot of research, not only Florida, but other areas. Priorities we warm climate, affordability and proximity to medical facilites. We ended up here in The Villages and have no regrets. Being close to WDW was not a priority, but it works out well (we went to Epcot just today). Any move is worth taking your time, if you can, and doing the research.
