I am very seriously considering moving to Orlando or the surrounding area within the next year. I was wondering if anyone here lives there and can give me information about what the areas are like and how the public school system is, etc. Would love to talk about anything with you. I used to post here quite a bit, but haven't in a long time. Glad to be back. Thanks for any info.

I live closer to the parks and I love it. I can't tell you about the schools since my kids are older. Welcome back to the DIS.

My best advice would be to live near where you work. Also, make sure that there are acceptable private schools nearby where you live in case the public schools don't serve your children well. Schools here seem to be hit-or-miss.

Housing costs are high, the power bill is through the roof, traffic is awful, the tourists are annoying, but I still wouldn't trade living here for anywhere. I love being able to go to Universal and Disney anytime I want.
My kids go to public school and I think they have a very good school. It seems like most of the schools around here are fairly new.

Does anyone know if any of the area high schools are on the "block system?" There's a remote chance that my DH could get a job in Orlando, and I'd be unable to tranfser my high schoolers in December unless they attended another school with the same set up. Also, we used to live in South Florida, and auto insurance was twice what we're paying now! I'd imagine that Orlando might be expensive in that respect as well.
