Anyone here know anything about IM injections?

I have a question:

If the injection doesn't go into the muscle will the medicine still work? Also last time i received the injection my muscle didn't hurt, the whole thing was painless. This time my gluteus maximus muscle is throbbing like no other. I was thinking that this time the nurse go the thing right and the medicine will show an effect.

Anyone know if my theory is correct?

What's the injection for? Some work in different ways, like one that I got had to go into the muscle and the other had to go into the ligaments and joints.
The BC shot just went into the fatty area of the upper hip.

It depends on what's being injected, the skill of the injector, and the number of nerve endings in the area of the injection.

Every one is different. I've given people injections that have made them scream or wince with pain, and I've given injections where the person has said "aren't you going to give me the shot" after I've given it and taken the needle back out.

Well, I'm not sure what meds you're injecting, but I'm on Avonex for my MS and I have to inject it IM. It's believed (after being studied obviously) that the meds are much more effective when injected directly into a muscle. I would guess it's that way for other drugs that call for IMs.

There's one overwhelming positive to IM - I don't bruise up like I did when I injected Betaseron under the skin. I used to look like my husband beat me - no lie.

It's a Progesterone shot. Last time the same girl did it I didn't feel it at all. This time I felt everything and I'm still feeling it... I just thought maybe it actually went in my muscle and hoping this time the hormone works!
