A good old fashioned pen and paper journal? Not a blog... I know a ton of people that choose to write those. I only bring it up because I had some friends over tonight, and one of them found a journal which I have basically been keeping since the start of my professional life in 2007. They didn't read through it, but just found it a bit odd... I guess no one keeps them anymore? :confused3

As for what's in it? Just basically entries 3-5 times a week about my basic thoughts, interests, things I did that week, men I've dated, and people I've met and even drawings when I couldn't think of anything to write. I consider myself highly introverted, so I find some peace of mind in it.

I have been keeping a journal for the past 4 years. I try to write in it a little each day and succeed most of the time. I usually use composition notebooks but I have found some really cute ones lately on sale and clearance. The one I am currently using has the Green Alien from Toy Story on it.

I find writing it out on paper helps me more because I can do it at anytime and not have to rely on a computer besides I do not like that with a blog anyone can read it.

I am starting a journal, going to purchase one Saturday. Do you all use a pretty one or just a notebook?

I used to use just composition notebook you could get at Target for $.50 during back to school sales but recently I have found a ton of cute ones on sale. Borders usually has some on sale as well as the Disney Store.

I do.

I have been for about 16 years. I love it, and check back often to what I did "this time" last year, or even a few years back.

My kids love it too. My daughter thought it was really neat to see how excited my DH and I were upon discovering I was pregnant for her brother and herself. I wrote every detail inside, Dr's Appt's, U/S, etc. etc. She said "you really wanted me" :lovestruc

I have made this a nightly habit, and am ever so glad because I have lost a lot of my memory due to some brain surgery, and this gives me a little flashback..:thumbsup2

I use a pretty journal. A cheap one :thumbsup2, but a cute one.

Not anymore, but I understand why you enjoy it. I wrote in journals for years. It is fantastic therapy. Sometimes you just got to get it out... BUT, I do wonder what my kids will think if I pass someday and haven't gotten rid of them yet?

Yes, I write in a journal and have since I was 16. I don't write in one as much anymore. I used to write daily.

i've kept a paper journal for several years. i write my prayer and basics of what is going on that day. i just use a regular composition book because they don't take up much space.

I've tried in the past but I never really feel like I have anything to say.

I do and have for many, many years....my daughters know that they are not to read it now but "someday" they will....I try to write in it everyday but unfortunately it doesn't always happen. Somethings I write about are: what I or we did that day, whats going on in our lives, how much I love my husband, what we had for dinner, the price of things (30 years from now they will be like wow "gas only cost $2.59 a gallon) and how much I love them!!!

My 2 dd's have also started writing in one also~the only rule we have NO ONE IS TO READ EACH OTHERS!!! ITS PRIVATE!!! (although like I said they will someday read mine)

Another thing I did for them is "write them a letter" once a month for the 1st year of their life. You can never explain those feeling you have unless you write them in the moment!!!

I love journals! I have kept one off and on. its been a while, and I just picked up a new one and am planning to start it today.

I was just going to start one today as a matter of fact. I'm using it as a tool to help to quit smoking. I thought if I write about my feelings I might get past feeling like I need to smoke when I'm upset. My fear is that somebody will read it!!!!!
Do they make adult sized locked diaries. Padlocked preferrably. I don't want anybody reading it after I die, either!

I keep trying to keep a journal but it just doesn't happen..

I write in it for awhile, then forget. Then repeat. It's frustrating. Maybe I don't have that many exciting things to keep me writing?

That being said, I kept journals (in the same fashion that I "keep them now") from Elementary-High School and it's so much fun to read those!

I actually started out with those Composition notebooks, but since have moved to a smaller, leather covered one. I like to write only one entry per side of each page, so I don't need the space.

I find it helps me when there is an ongoing situation that I can't really do anything about. For example, I was very upset a few years ago because what was a very good friend of mine turned on me and hurt me intentionally. I had to see this person every single day because I worked with them. I couldn't do or say anything about the situation because it would jeopardize my career. So I used the journal to vent until I finally came to terms with it all.

I have one but I usually only write in it when something is bothering me. That way I get it out. I have to admit in the past I have written when something nice happened that I didn't want to forget but now I use it like therapy. Had to use it the other night because DS has a major case of 12 year old boy!!

I have kept one off and on for years. I picked up a new notebook to start writing again this weekend. After reading this thread, I realize I have been away from writing for too long.
