Anyone here into Genealogy?

My DH & I have started talking about my doing this on my side of the family (since we know virtually nothing). How much information would you need to start out with? I don't have a lot?!

I work on this off and on. I have traced my mothers side and found some very interesting documents. Several wills and testaments. Leaving horses or sorry to say slaves to there children.

Even got court transcripts of a court hearing of an ancester trying to get his revolutionary war pension.

I traced back to 1560 England when my ancester came over on the ship "Phillip".

Having difficulty tracing my dads side as the local court house that housed the records had not one but 2 fires about 20 years apart at the turn of 1800-1900. So having heck of a time.

I *think* that the message boards at ancestry.com are free, it's all the records that cost money. My FIL lets me use his account! Try the LDS (Mormon Church) site... they have some good info.

On my Mom's side I found a Draft registration card for my Great Grandfather. My Mother never even knew he was in WWI. Does our family not communicate or what?

This is a start! THere are tons of military records out there!
