Hi,

DS GF is moving to El Dorado, Ark in a couple weeks to work on an archeogical dig in the area.

DS is looking for work in the area. He has a Masters in Chem Eng. Anyone live or familiar with this area?

herc.

being as it is the next town to the west of us, granted 50 miles or so,, i know alittle, t here are several chemical plants and a couple of refineries over there, he should be able to find work, if not, georgia pacific has a chemical resins plant here in our town , 50 miles roughly to the east, less than an hour drive....

welcome to the swamps...

ok, htanks.

I'll tell DS to look at Georgia Pacific, too.

Anyone else?

None of us have ever been to Arkansas. "Welcome to the swamps", what? DS and his GF are going to have a shock coming from the cornfields of Se MN where they've lived all their life, LOL.

our part of arkansas is swampy, delta plain wetlands abound,, therefore,, welcome to the swamps,, lots of timber here, but to our east you run into miles of cotton feilds,, not much corn, but some... with all the oil fields, refineries and stuff he should be fine.

for a little more info, try this site,,
http://www.arkansassouth.com/

btw i think dw and i are the only disers in this area, lucyannagirl and dark dancer are about 30 miles south of us, there were a couple just to our east in miss. but as far as i know,, after three yeras of asking, btw, we are hte only ones in s e ark. most of the arkansas disers are in central ark. or nw ark.

couple of ideas

Great Lakes Chemical (DH says probably the biggest employer of chem. eng. in the world)

Arkansas Chemical

Monsanto

Cross Oil

There is also a hazardous disposal company there too but we cant remember
the name of it.

Good Luck

ensco is probably the one you are thinking of Hogfan, but they change names so often i am not even sure what its called now.

and you left out the biggy,, murphy oil

:offtopic:

NW Arkansas here!

That's just a whole 'nother world down there....so different than what I'm used to. As a matter of fact, I've only been down there once and it's been over 30 years ago. I guess I need to mosey on down that way sometime. :teeth:

River Valley here, but dh2b is from Southwest AR. We've lived in each section of the state, but not in ElDorado. Did have some friends from college who were from there, but I guess that doesn't help this thread any..... Hmmm, I'm no help at all. Think I'll just go on my way now. :p

Central Arkansas here!

I 2nd what all Froggy has said, and yes they will be in shock! Good luck to them both.

ok i try for yearsa to get all the arkies onto one thread and figure out whos wherte and herc manages to pull it off first try.

we seriously need to see about setting u p a central ark meet sometimes.

we are goingto hoitsprings a lot again,, and on the 15ht of july we will be at magic springs for the forgeingor concert...

I grew up 12 miles from El Dorado, in a much smaller town. But that was during the last Stone Age, so I can't help you now; I just clicked in because I recognized the town name.

Good luck!

Froggy, I have seen others from AR on these boards. Many do not frequent the community board.

I think a met would be fun. :cheer2:

nurset,, i've seen others too. was why i started trying to see who was where,, i ussually get one or two responses and then it drops.

I grew up in Bastrop and Monroe, Louisiana. Both located in the northeast section of the state. I have had the pleasure of visiting El Dorado on a couple of occasions. It has a very quaint country-town feel. I think you will find most of the people friendly an probably intrigued by your accents.(as I'm sure you will be of theirs) It will be quite a culture shock. Monroe is a larger small town with shopping and resturaunts that might be worth the drive. Good luck!

This thread reminds me of the Marc Cohn song, "Silver Thunderbird" ... "you can keep your el dorado. and your foreign cars absurd ... me I wanna go down, in a Silver Thunderbird."

- Dana, who drove from Memphis to Batesville once, and was TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY.

i have/had family in botht hhose towns too.

and rayville

monroe /west monroe is worth the drive from up here for shopping, not sure how the job markets aer there now...

We live in Fordyce, so we are also about 50 miles from El Dorado. I think there is a Eldorado Chemical and Great Lakes Chemicals. If I had a choice NW AR is the best place to re-locate in AR. My daughter attends UofAR and the area is really growing fast and beautiful !

NW Arkansas signing in...Bentonville, actually.
Only been here 3 years, just like everyone else in this town...
Wal- Mart is the draw for up this way, as well as all of the vendors.
Originally a southern girl from the South Carolina coast, so I did have a bit of adjusting to go through. (Not too, too long!)
That being said, the people who are actually from Arkansas are delightful.

Let me know if there's ever a meet...we'll come! :sunny:
