Hi,

We're going to see U2 on the 29th June... :cool1:

Have never been to the Millennium Stadium before, was wondering what the parking was like, does it take 4 hours to get out of the car park after the concert and if this is the case is there an alternative car park we can use?

Thanks in anticipation.....................

Hi There

Yes I am from Cardiff,I live about a 5 minute walk from the stadium. The Millenium Stadium is very close to the centre of Cardiff and there are a number of NCP Car parks in close proximity to the stadium. The nearest one would be behind the central bus station which is almost directly opposite the stadium, however they are expensive.

Depending how early you are coming into Cardiff, I would advise you to find a shop that sells Parking Vouchers, most places in the centre has signs telling you if they sell them or not, and try to park on the Embankment by the side of the river, which is also opposite the stadium, but is in the Grangetown/Riverside area of Cardiff, where I live. I am not sure from which area you are coming from, but if you would like to pm me I will help you out the best I can.

The vouchers for the embankment last about 21/2 hours and the maximum time to can spend there is 5 hours, so you will need to get 2 vouchers, I think they are a £1.00 each so it will only cost you £2.00 here instead of about £8-£9 in the car parks. I think you will need to get there fairly early though to secure one of those as you can imagine, esp on this night.

Anyway I hope that helps you out a bit, and please feel free to PM me should you need any further help. Hey I might even let you park outside my house for a small fee ;) :rotfl:

Hey.....I was gonna park outside your house Sue ;)

DisdreamerUK we are going to see U2 as well - doors open at 4pm so I am glad we have seats ;)

Hope to see you all there
What are the shops in Cardiff like Sue? DH has booked us into a hotel so we can make a couple of days of it as DS is staying with his Grandma. DH has offered to go shopping on the Thursday - think he is making up for the fact that he is away playing golf at the mo :rotfl:

Clare

We have some fantastic shopping in Cardiff, places to look out for are, St Davids Centre, The Capital Centre, and anywhere along Queen Street, all the usual shops are there as well as some designer ones. If you are after small antique shops or bric brac shops go to the shopping arcades that run along St Marys Street, right in front of Cardiff Castle. We have a big Disney shop here as well.

What hotel are you staying in, and I will direct you to some other places as well.

Oh I meant to add I dont know if any of you are interested but we have a massive Ikea here as well, it is not in the City Centre, but in a retail park in Cardiff Bay, if anybody does want directions, let me know, thats if you have the time to go shopping.

I wont be going to the concert, just hanging out of my bedroom window, listening to it from there lol :rotfl:

Hi Sue :wave2:
The Park Plaza. One shop I would like to look in is Melin Tregwynt as they have some lovely homey things.
Thanks for the update and I hope that you can hear out of your bedroom window
Kaylee become a golf widow then you can always get your own way :rotfl:

The thing is I am a golf/squash/gym/guitar widow......who is my husband again?????

Oh no. When my time comes again I am going to be re incarnated as a man! :rotfl:

Thanks everyone.

Hi Kaylee, We're driving up from Devon too, haven't got seats though, goodness knows what time we'll have to leave?? My hubby can't get anymore time off work so we're driving back straight after the concert.
Shame, an Ikea detour would've been right up my street!!

Hi Sue, thanks alot for your advice. Haven't been to Cardiff for years and have not got the foggiest where the stadium is, so I might PM you for some "easy" directions!!

Parking is always the pain at these events, we do actually get some class acts in Devon occasionally :rotfl:(we saw Keane at Exeter Uni) and it often takes longer to get out of the carpark than the length of the concert!!!

We went to see Elton John at Powderham castle a couple of years ago and I have never experienced anything to match the chaos of trying to get out of there once the concert was over :(

The concert finished at about 10:30 and we finally left the field we were parked in at about 1:30 am

I vowed never to go and see anyone else at the venue following that!!!

Ditto the fact that Cardiff is a great city for shopping and entertainment :cool1:

When DH goes to rugby matches at the Millennium Stadium, he always manages to find off-street parking no more than a 10 - 15 minute walk away across the river, but it can be a bit of a mad scramble getting out after the match :(

Jen

We have to drive back afterwards too, or shall I say DH has to drive back whilst I will be snoozing LOL ;) I wanted to de-tour to Cribbs DH won't have any of it though!!

May see some of you there. If it starts to rain it may be my voice that causes it - apologies in advance :rotfl2:

Hope you all have a great time and the weather tomorrow is better than it is right now here in Cardiff, pouring down with rain and thunder and lightening.

Never mind the Stadium does have a roof.

Enjoy Everybody.

Sue

Have good one!

The weather's looking a lot better today (at the moment), so hopefully you won't all have to fight through floods to get there! We were in Cardiff last night (clearing out last of DD's things from uni accommodation) and it was pretty wet then
