I am thinking about driving to WDW on my next trip from vermont. :earseek:

How long is the drive from vt?

Anyone have any tips or advice?

I was also thinking about travling druing the night, there would be less traffic. My father used to do this when we lived in Penn. and traveled to NH or VT to visit, and he said it was always easier, and lots less traffic. He would drive at night, and stop at rest stops to take naps when needed, and I would sleep the whole trip!

But now I'm am the mother and the driver, and will be taking either one or 2 of my chilren with me. I'm just worried about the safety of the rest stops at night, if I needed to rest.

anyone with experiance with night driving too, any tips on that would be nice. (I may not drive at night, it's just a thought)

Thanks

Have not done it from VT but have done it from here in CT. Southern Vermont is about 2 to 2 1/2 hours from where we live.

Left home approximately 2:00 AM and had breakfast in MD. Drove till about 5:00 PM and stayed overnight in SC. Left SC about 9:00 AM the next day and arrived at WDW that afternoon. All in all we drove about 18 hours.

I would suggest you evaluate the cost comparison of driving vs flying. With gas costing so much these days and WDW providing free transportation from the airport, eliminating the need for a rental car, we found that the cost to fly was only slightly higher than driving.

We've driven from Vermont 3 times. Once in a motor home and twice towing a 30ft Travel Trailer. It takes us about 28 hours each way. We only stop for gas and one meal along the way. We do switch drivers at each gas stop. We have tried several routes, but it always seemed to take 28 hours.

I drove from burlington, last year. Just me and DD. It took us 23hrs down and 26 hours back.

We have driven from St. Albans to WDW with a 24 ft. travel trailer. About 30 hours each way.

Most of the rest areas along the way are manned and generally have the State Police patrolling them frequently. I have stopped for a quick nap many times without a problem.

You won't be the only one there, often they are full of people stopping for a quick nap, break, etc.

I have driven from MA. and it took about 23 hours. We also did most of the driving at night which made it much easier. My only suggestion would be to not sleep at rest stops. That would make me a little uneasy. I would probably take an exit and pull into a hotel parking lot an rest there. This would probably be a little safer.

We've driven from Vermont numerous times and we left around 5:00 am, stopped for breakfast in Plattsburg, NY then headed out. We stopped in the Carolinas for the night around 5 or 6 pm then headed out the next morning around 6 or 7 arriving in Apopka (always stop to see my aunt) around 2 or 3. This was with stops for meals, bathroom breaks and just breaks for stretching or changing drivers.

We've never done it at night because I'm not good at night driving and it would be too much for my husband to do all the driving. We now live in Ohio and find that, with the gas prices, flying plus renting a car almost comes out even with less stress. I understand it's only about 14 hours from here but even that is too much now and we fly as often as we can.
