My In-Laws have lived in Sun City HHI for 12 years now. They LOVE it and so do we!! When it first was built, it was so nice as it was a smaller and more intimate community, but now it truly is a CITY! There are soo many homes and families there now ranging from early retirement all the way up. It is a beautiful property with many amazing facilities.
The two golf courses are nice, reasonable and relatively easy to get play time on for residents. It used to be much of a golfing community but now there is everything you can think of!
Your parents should really want to be active and involved to be happy there. That's what pretty much everyone says.
Other activities that are big are tennis, swimming, bocce ball, pickle ball, softball, biking, on and on!
The clubhouses, restaurants and facilities are wonderful and wonderfully maintained. The pools are very nice, there are three outdoor and one indoor pools.
There is every type of club and activity outside of sports you can think of. Cards, reading, hobbies, travel, politics, state groups (where you're from) and tons and tons of parties all the time! Everyone seems like they are always entertaining.
It's taken until now to have pretty much everything you need outside the community to not have to travel onto the island. Hospital, Wal-Mart, Target, grocery stores, restaurants and other retail.
The location is wonderful, wonderful weather year-round and wonderful things to see and do closeby. Hilton Head itself is wonderful and Savannah, Beaufort, Charleston are all at your fingertips. A little further is Myrtle Beach, Jacksonville and even Atlanta.
