Hi everyone:

My Dad owns a timeshare at "Resort World" in Kissimmee...one he's owned for years. I've never been here and with all the timeshares in that area, I've never even heard of it! Anyone have any experience here or have any reviews at all? I'm looking for brutally honest here, if anyone has anything to say.....I definately do NOT want to stay in a dump!

Thanks!

Sammy

There are several posts about this place - I have posted a few myself. This place is partially owned by Clarion (Choice Hotels - Comfort, Clarion, etc...) We got stuck staying here several years back through a vacation club. We aren't into timeshare properties and didn't know that's what it was until we arrived! As well, we had never stayed in Kissimee, and we greatly disliked it here as well. Anyway, they've changed names a couple of times since (used to be owned by same group who owned Star Island) - don't bother doing an Internet search as photos are totally staged and a lot of the info is blatant misrepresentation. The management at this place was horrrible, they did landscaping work in middle of night, moldy tubs (no showers), broken security lights (very dark grounds), no restaurant, no daily housekeeping, only pay shuttles available which were very expensive, terrible location (on corner of highway, plus property is divided in half by a major road), no activities scheduled besides an art auction and timeshare tours, as well as the worst timeshare sharks who only cared about securing more potential customers.

They might have improved things in the last several years since we've been, but the fact remains this was a budget property that advertised as a 4 star resort - far from it! I spent the entire first day crying in our room because we planned our trip based on the info the hotel gave us and they basically lied to us. We paid a lot of money for this place as well and so we had a terrible time for a million different reasons.

Maybe your experience would be better as your dad is an owner, but I think that there are much better places to stay at while in Orlando.

God luck, Tiger

TUG reviews from 3 stays during 2003 suggest that there have been significant improvements. In July 2003, management was taken over by "Celebrity Resorts," which I know nothing about. However, these 3 reviews used terms like "cheerful," "helpful" and "bent over backwards to please" to describe the staff, including front desk, concierge, maintenance and repair staff, with room concerns addressed swiftly and effectively. Don't know about the security & lighting issues - they aren't mentioned in these reviews.

In the past, guest staying at any of the Clarion resorts in the group had visiting privileges to Star Island, across the street (pool & spa services). This has apparently been discontinued since the change in management ended the reciprocity agreement between them.

As of October 2003, reportedly most 2BR units in the Resort World section have been refurbished. You may want to request a renovated unit since older reviews commonly mentioned the poor condition of furnishings. This is an older resort property, so I would expect that there will still be many things that need upgrading to return the resort to its original standard. It's definitely not currently a "5 Star" timeshare but it seems to be making efforts. I'm sure feedback from people like the poster above have helped the POA make decisions regarding management.

If these 3 TUG reviews reflect a trend at this resort, it may provide an acceptable, spacious, comfortable place to sleep & swim while you vacation in Florida. HTH.
