We just got a letter from them in the mail. Anyone know anything about them? It is a sports ambassador program to Holland I guess.

I know there have been lots of posts about it before. You might try to do a search. DS gets a letter every year to be a regular (not sports) and I asked about it the first time he got a letter. There are lots of people that gave really good information about it. We have never done it before because its really expensive.

Got a letter for my daughter too. Sounds good in the brochure and internet but no one I know has ever done it. Maybe too far to experiment. If you hear anything please post.

My 14 DS just got a letter from them yesterday and I was wondering about this too. It sounds interesting but I wonder how much it is and how they find kids to "invite."

Hi...I have a little experience with this!

My oldest DS was selected as a sports ambassador (baseball) when he was 15. From what I was able to gather, it is a nomination process either by a coach or teacher. I was never able to find out who nominated him.
We went to several meetings before we/he decided to make the comitment to go. There were different locations to choose from and DS chose Australia. We had a lot of help in fund raising suggestions and was able to raise the money for him to go....yes it is expensive.
He was gone for 2 weeks.
It was a great experience for him. His team was made up from young men and coaches from all over the country and they played several tournaments while in Australia. There was also time for touring and it was well chaperoned.

Any other questions? I'd be glad to help...

Thanks for the information. I was wondering how she got a letter( if they just mass mailed them to kids on sports teams or if someone submitted her name). It must have been her soccer coach that nominated her which is funny because she has only played soccer one season. I went to their website but there really isn't that much information. It got to the part where parents were not allowed to chaperone and said NO WAY. She is only 10. If she was in high school, then I would pursue it but she is not going to Holland at age 10 without a parent (she wouldn't want to go anyway).

She is only 10

Oh my goodness...I was under the impression that it was high school age. At least that was the age of my sons team.
In that case I would definately reconsider, especially if parents are not allowed to chaperone/go along.
If I remember right we chose not to go because of the expense. Of course we researched at length the coach/chaperone issue.
Good Luck...

One would think that if they are asking kids to go half way across the world without a parent that they would be older then 10. Out of curiosity, how expensive is expensive?

I agree and at the very least be acceptable to having a parent go along. What are her choices of places to go?

As far as expensive ( it was 4 yrs ago ) it was about $3000. They gave us a great deal of info on fund raising ideas. And our church youth group also did alot to help. And we did have about 8 months to raise the money.
And also I think that each location had a different length of time that the team was gone, in my DS case they played several tournaments over a 2 week period.
