We were swimming up at the lake cottage and my DS had cut his foot. We were out of the water for a little while and the bleeding stopped and we went back in for just a few minutes. We were heading back to the stairs and all of a sudden a fish was attacking DS's foot. This was a sheepshead fish. It does not have teeth (like a muskie) and in all the years I have been swimming there (since I was a baby), there was NEVER an occurance of this type of fish attacking us. DH has cut himself plenty while putting in the pier so I don't know why this fish did this. It doesn't have teeth, so I think it was sort of "nibbling" but very strange. It stayed at the top of the water, even near me, while I was waiting to get up the stairs. I kicked the water hard by it, and it didn't want to go away. These fish don't come near people. Any ideas? I did report this to the DNR, but had to leave a message on an answering machine and they haven't gotten back to us.

I've been nibbled by fish plenty of times while lake swimming. I haven't ever actually seen any of the fish, so I have no clue what kind it might have been. Kind of weird that the fish hung around though, most swim away pretty quickly.

I've been nibbled on too, but not like that. That would be scary.
