Anyone having problems showing BLT restraint?

I have to admit, I get a little green :bounce: reading all these posts about people buying into BLT. Part of me wants to join just for the sake of it, to be a founding member or to be a part of what's new in DVC. But I can't afford it - I know this - and I don't even like the theme! The look of the rooms from the intro-video didn't do it for me. Too geometric, modern, Ikea-ish (hey, it's the Contemporary ;) ). So why do I still have that nagging toddler in saying "I want! I Want!"?

What is up with that?

It's Disney, that's what they do best! Your wallet goes :wizard:

My rational thought on BLT, there will be resales, I'll let others overspend.

I'm not even in the market for any more points right now, but I find myself wanting to buy BLT. I think it's all the hype. I felt like this when AKV were announced and I managed to resist. :)

Nope, this one I can excersise LOTS of restraint on... no desire to own, very little desire to visit!

Absolutely not. I do not like the look of it at all. Very disappointed to say the least.

That's funny - I'm the same - don't really have the cash (at least until tax return time) and we don't even like the Contemporary theme. But that view ... it is tempting. Guess I'll see how we feel in a while.

Someone posted the points for a MK view for a 1 bedroom at 333 points. that's all I needed to hear! (Plus we just bought in Feb so we have no money)

We'll stay there once for the experience and that will be good enough for us. I'd rather go more often in "lesser" resorts *said tongue in cheek* than kill all my points on a view.

I can stand on mainstreet and see MK, kwim? :lmao:

Nope, no problem at all. Too many points, don't care for the decor and we spend most of our time at Epcot. (I didn't ride the monorail at all on our last two trips.)

I'll visit, I won't buy.

no temptation here. I've never really been that gung ho about BLT. Many are, just not me. The lack of theme is just kinda BLAH. Now seeing the rooms, it clearly just looks like a borning old hotel. Sure great view (if you want to pay double the points) but we don't fly across the country to see MK from outside the park, we watch the fireworks from INSIDE anyway. Monorail? Not bad but not worth the extra points for me. Plus, MK is only one park. we spend almost equal time in the other 3. I LOVE VWL and would buy points there before BLT. Just one point of view...

For the price, if I were in a position to buy I still think I'd hold out for incentives like developer points, etc. Otherwise I think for sure it would need to be a try before you buy resort.

This theard is helping me out alot. I really don't need them. Plus I have other fun stuff to buy before that. Good Thread!!!:thumbsup2

We were never really interested and the only place we (Ok, I) was considering an add on was HHI. We ate at Chef Mickey's last week and after seeing how huge and not cute that bldg is, I was hoping the interiors would be stylish and luxurious. I was thinking posh New York style apartments:lmao:

With today's announcement and the price coming in much lower than projected, the thought crossed my mind to do a small add on. But the whole "founding member" get your name on a fountain thing, jerked me back to reality as we are still waiting on our founding member AKV tapestry info!

I jumped too quick on AKV and those that purchased after us, were allowed to stay in July 2007 where all the founding members had to wait until Sept 2007. That and they got better incentives. So fool me once......

I like contemporary but more Thehotel@Mandalay Bay contemporary. This is everything that was wrong with the 70's, That 70's Show, contemporary. It looks dated and its not even finished yet!

The announcement for THV sealed the deal for no BLT for us. That announcement was like getting another resort for free! One that we could really benefit and use and not more of the same with a different location. We could stay at the THV/SSR and really get the best of both worlds. That and a Waterpark AP would be a great vacation for us.

Glamping fits us perfect!

We are not in any park long enough to want to be close to any of them except my girls trip to F&WF and we have BCV and BWV for that. We dont even visit MK every trip.

So THV squashed all thoughts of add ons at BLT and HHI.

I have to say...I'm a little disappointed on the inside of the units at BLT. I so wanted to love them. I really think that they did such a nice job on the remodel of the Contemporary and was thinking they were going to be more like that. I will have to get a better look at these.

The THV's look really interesting! I kind of like that "glamping" idea too! I will probably never get to stay there though, because there will only be 2br or 3br units, if I am understanding correctly. I'm sure they will be too many points for us.:sad1:

Anyway, exciting news!

With the price, higher point requirements, decor and the new reservation system, DVC has definitely removed most of the temptation for a small add on for me.

I too started to get caught up in all the excitement, especially as I happen to be on the boards very early yesterday when the news broke.

Then I saw the video and it was as if a cold bucket of water had been thrown on me. Definitely not my taste.

Tempted.

We're almost certainly (provided they don't sell out...which I'm supposing is unlikely) going to do an add on after the holidays, early next year.

But I'm sorely tempted to do it now......

:)

Sure I would like to stay there one day.....but have no desire to own there. TOO many points to stay there during the week though. I Love SSR because it is close to DTD and now the THV have been added. NICE!!! We just added onto AKV which is off the beaten path....also NICE. To me BLT reminds me of a city building or a Miami high rise. Sure being close to MK is a huge perk and for some people this is why they bought in.....but we don't mind busses/walking/boats.

Thankfully, no need for restraint. BLT becoming DVC was the whole reason we bought into DVC in the first place - we've been planning on this purchase for months. We are CR groupies already - I'm so excited that we won't miss a fall trip to CR - we were originally worried it wouldn't be open next fall and we'd be staying somewhere else.

we've been waiting a long time for a DVC @ the CR (our fav) & to addon in general

problem is in addition to the current economy, we have found that our vacation needs have changed over the past several years & we've been enjoying other non-Disney vacations (cruises, vegas, etc.)

still mulling it over, yet may just switch out one of our contracts & buy BLT:confused3 , yet hard to part with either:sad1:

will say the minimalist/contemporary/ikea theme (especially the stainless steel) is exactly DHs taste in furnishings;) ...for me it's all about access to MK & ability to view the fireworks (if not from my balcony, from resort)
