My nephew bought a computer from his friend and this is what it has. He had it for about a year and finally had to have it fixed (had viruses and all). When he got it back it no longer had "Word". Does it not come with Word? Why did they take it out?

I have Windows Millenium and don't have Word, I have Microsoft Works.

If I am not mistaken It should have Wordpad under the accessories tab in the start menu. It is a basic word prossesing program.

Word is Microsoft's pemium word prossesing program.

I have ME and it did not come with Word. I believe they are seperate programs completely and the manufacturer decides what software to put on the computer- which affects the price. Word may have been put on seperately from Windows.

Like others have said, my ME came with Microsoft Works, not Word. I have heard from many people (including the Gateway people) the ME is the WORST operating system to have (could be the root of many problems)

hubby finally got smart and let me get rid of ME on my computer and change over to XP.........I have not had any problems in the two weeks we have had this.....I had ME for quite a while and it drove me nuts..

I have ME and it did not orginally come with MS Word. That is a separate program that you either purchase or maybe the manufacturer of the computer might include it with the sale, but it is not part of ME.

I agree that ME sucks. I have had nothing but problems when I want to load any games. Most of them do not work.

but if it originally had word on it and went to be repaired, shouldn't it have come home with word on it?

He might have to reload Word back on with the disks that he got with the computer from his friend. The computer may have been 'restored' back to original status, erasing any updates ever done on the PC. Before a tech would do that however, I would think the ywould tell/ask and remind one of the consequences of a full restore like that.

Could be something else, but sure sounds like that may be what happened.

*agrees with Dan Murphy* Microsoft Word is a seperate program that was probably bundled with the computer from purchase. Hopefully you should have the cd's for it that came with the computer. If not, and you really want it, click HERE
THat's a link for Microsoft Office, which has word bundled into it ;)

Windows ME and comes with MS Works and not Word.

I slow decideing whether to upgrade my OS to Windows Xp. But Before I do that i have upgrade the Ram on the computer.

If you don't want to pay Micro$oft prices for Office, and you can't locate the MS Works CD, you might want to install Open Office. This is free, and it works with MS Office file formats. Read, edit, create Word documents and Excel spreadsheets, etc. This is very good stuff.

I seem to remember we had to add Word to ours too. I am hoping to get rid of ME soon for XP.
