Anyone have trouble with their EasyShare camera?

I own an EasyShare C340. I've had the camera about a year.

My camera is very well taken care of, but lately the dial on the top of the camera to turn it on sticks when it gets hot/humid outside. It's a round dial on the top of the camera to turn it on and off. When it sticks it's nearly impossible to move, but when it's cool outside, or if I'm in air conditioning the dial turns perfectly.

Why would it do this?

I've looked on the Kodak site. It tells me nothing. According to the site the warranty wouldn't cover this, but I could send over $120 to get it checked.

I've called a local camera shop. For $50 I can have him look at it. Then it's $40 per hour plus parts after looking at it. The camera currently sells at Walmart for about $150.

When the dial does turn the camera works great.

I just can't figure out what to do. Has anyone had anything like this happen?

Can anyone help me? It's a shame not to be able to use a camera because of a sticking on/off dial.

Thanks. :)

usually it's an accumulation of dust then got 'mixed-up' with moisture from the air. Lack of use will do that to a camera (or anything else, for that matter).

Since buying a new camera is only $150, I'd try opening the camera myself and clean the switch's shaft. I'm 90% sure that that's where the problem lies. Try getting the service manual by Google-ing it.

We have had the z730 (I think) since last August and our dial to turn it on has always been sticky. Now, it sort of resistant when you try and turn it. Like I said though, it has been this way since I took it out of the box.

This happened to me about halfway thru our week at WDW, where it definitely was hot/humid outside! The power switch got so balky that I was fearful of breaking it, in trying to turn the camera on/off, although that never happened. As soon as we got back, off it went to the authorized repair center in our area for warranty repair (only 4 months old). Got an email from them yesterday stating that parts were needed, and to expect it back in 2-3 weeks.
