I get 1.5 percent back from paypal when I use the card linked to my checking. I got back 30.00 last month from my purchases..

No way would I do that. I never use a checking card for anything online and after having issues with Paypal double no way with them! I feel better knowing that I have the extra protection with my credit card company.

Not sure if this is where to ask......how can you "load" money on to a Paypal card without the money going through your checking account.
How long does a transfer take?

You would just have to add funds from your linked bank account to your paypal account. Not sure how long it would take.

I do. Have for awhile. It's a mastercard, run as a credit card and I get protection from that. I almost never use my bank debit card anymore.

You can add money to paypal by purchasing a MoneyPak at the store. Then you just login to paypal and load.

I never bought one, so not sure what fees are involved.

ETA: just looked them up on Paypal. Seems it is $4.95 for the card. But you can only load $250 the first year (?). Seems kind of a hassle unless it is your only option.

If you want a bank account connected, but don't want to put your main bank, you could always open a new checking and keep limited funds in it.

Once you've logged onto the paypal website, just click on the link that says "add funds." It's free. It does take a few days for the transfer to be completed.

no, I just don't feel comfortable with that. I know I'm protected even if I use my debit card as a cc, but if something were to happen you would be out that money until the bank could credit it back to you. I don't want to get stuck with not being able to pay another bill that I thought I had the money for, just because someone emptied my account. I stick with the CC's.

I recently consolidated 4 bank accounts into two at two different banks. I had PayPal card linked to a very small business account. A few weeks ago I noticed I hadn't changed the PayPal linkage to our primary checking account, so I did.

Then a few days later I remembered there was a reason -- sheesh -- I don't want my PayPal account linked to a bank account with a few thousand dollars instead of one with just a couple hundred. So I'll be switching them back.

It's not that I don't trust PayPal, but I'd rather not give someone the opportunity to steal all my cash.

I did - until about $1700 worth of fraudulant charges showed up in my account from Skype. I was reimbursed all the money - but it took about 2 weeks. When I went to my Credit Union they told me there is more problems with PayPal than anywhere else and to end my account. So I did. That is probably why they have incentives, because of all the problems. I believe it took

Just wanted to add - I considered myself lucky that I keep a $5000 minumum in my checking account and wasn't affected. But I know others aren't in the same situation. And I wasn't pleased with how long Paypal took to replace the money.

It usually takes 1-2 business days for the transaction to process -- IMO, it's as secure/good as snything else, out there,,,

Wow..this is pretty disturbing. I have my checking linked to PayPal and have for years...and I mean years..like since paypal first started. Never a problem. Of course, I've never used it to take money out of my checking, I just use it to cash out money from payments to me from ebay sales.

You could open a 2nd checking account and only keep the money you know you'd use for paypal in there.

Then your bill paying money is not even an issue.

** This info is for someone not able or wanting to use CC...not trying to sway mamaLori :goodvibes **

I do this with my checking regardless, if I have a Visa/MC checkcard on it. I only keep what I'll be needing for bills or groceries and everything goes in savings. I turned down overdraft protection, so if anyone tried, the transaction would (should) get denied.

I would never attach my actual checking account to paypal. We opened a checking account specifically for paypal. Our bank charges nothing for the checking account as long as you keep a $100 in it. So we keep only $100 in it. If I need to transfer money to or from paypal I just deposit or withdraw money from that checking account.

That's not just a paypal problem. Its any bank where you have a debit card. My aunt got nailed with over $900 worth of charges on her bank of america debit card last month for plan tickets purchase in other parts of the world and the US.

With paypal and the debut card you can set a max. I have mine set at $200. So if I have no pay pal balance and use the card the most I can do is $200, That amount can be adjusted as needed.

I have had my checking account linked to paypal since they first joined with ebay and have never had any issues.

Paypal has charged my card several times for things I didn't buy, never heard of etc. I finally got the account closed but I would NEVER risk letting those people NEAR my cash. I don't do Ebay etc becuase I am NOT doing paypal. I will pay using my CC if there are NO other choices but won't have an account and let them store my data.

I have never had the problems with any of my credit cards that I have had with PayPal. They appear to have NO security and thier response is "PROVE you didn't buy XYZ"

I have a checking account link to my paypal account. But basically have nothing in the checking account but money that transfer into account. This account keep for paypal. The checking unusually have less than 5.00 dollars.

Do you use the Paypal Debit Card to receive this? If so, how can you tell if you qualify for this? I've had it attached to my account for the last year and I have used the card allot but I don't recall seeing any incentives.

I would NEVER do this even with an extra checking account. DH and I have both had fraudulent charges via paypal that took weeks to fix. I only use my AmEx online as they have an amazing response when it comes to fraudulent charges, and if the merchant does not take AmEx then they do not get my business.

I am also one who started using Paypal when it first came out -- remember the $25 referral fees paypal was giving out? Anyway, if I'm buying something online and there's a paypal link, I'll use it vs using a credit card link. That way I don't have a bill hanging over my head. It's paid for. There are so many websites these days that steal credit card info.

I've never ever had an issue with any type of fraud using Paypal for the past 11 years. I also pay my daughter's skating coaches for her skating lessons each week via paypal. It's free and so easy to do!
