I had mine out when I was 2 and they grew back. Not only have they grown back, but as of my last CT scan they are pretty prominent.
When they remain prominent as an adult, there is a possibility of tumors. Coupled with the sinus disease on the scan, and my history of chronic sinusitis, it's extremely likely that I will need to have my adenoids removed again.

So if anyone has any experience with adenoid surgery for adults - particularly the recovery period and pain involved, I would love to hear it. I won't know for sure until after the holidays, but I figure it's always a good idea to prepare myself ;)

I recently had my tonsils and an adenoid removed. I only had one left so they removed it along with my tonsils. I also had sinus surgery at the same time.

The sinus part was fine, no bleeding or anything.

The tonsils/adenoid was not so much fun. It hurts but honestly it wasn't as bad as everyone was saying.

Good Luck!

I had some prominent adenoid tissue removed two years ago. It was outpatient surgery. I remember feeling like a train wreck for one day afterwards. I felt like my whole body was sore...but I think it was the tylenol with codiene that was doing a number on me. As soon as I stopped taking it...(b/c my throat didn't hurt that much anyway) I felt much better.
