I am told by my esthetician that the discolored skin on my face is "pregnancy mask". I'm not pregnant.

Anyone else familiar with this?

Thanks in advance.

I got this while pregnant and it has remained. My upper lip area became dark and has stayed that way.

Oh crap, that's not what I want to hear. I'm 9 months pregnant now and several months ago I got a red spot on my nose. I thought it was the beginning of a zit, but nothing ever came of it. It's just a red discoloration---a permanant "zit". I was hoping that it will go away after I have the baby. It better not be a permanant fixture because it will have to be dealt with. I'm not going around the rest of my life looking like I have a zit on my nose.

Mine is on my upper lip, as well. I notice it tends to go away if I go off my pills-TMI-sorry.

It's really starting to annoy me.

If you have what I'm thinking you do, there are bleaching creams that can make it fade; I have a "browned" area on my knee from a wound. I'm making it fade with an over-the-counter cream that has hydroquinone in it, but it's taking a while. I believe it works best for light-skinned women.

they key is to wear "the mask " before you get pregnant

You might want to try switching brands. I had some discoloration on my cheeks, but when I switched to another brand, it went away. Funny thing is, I never got the 'pregnancy mask' when I was pregnant - only when I was taking the pill.

I had a small dark spot come up on my cheek during this last pregnancy and-3 weeks later- it still shows no signs of fading. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
Edited to clarify I gave birth three weeks ago-the spot has been there for months.

I never had the 'mask' but I did get that brown line down my belly! My youngest will be 10 next month and it's not dark like it was, but I can still see it!! :earseek:

My DH actually has this condition on his cheeks. The doctors said he could take hormone pills to fix it but he decided it didn't bother him that badly.
