first course at California Grill? I would love to see it!

I thought that had been banned in all but a couple states......considering the horrible torture the animal has to endure, it should be banned worldwide IMO.
Flame me if you want!

I have not tried the foie gras at CA Grill but I have heard that it's quite tasty.

If you ever get to Victoria & Albert's try their foie gras, it's excellent!

Pakey, I can't see pictures while I'm logged on at work so I was wondering if you can tell us what you thought of the foie gras at CA Grill. Was it comparable to V&A? I'm seriously thinking of trying it this fall when we go back to WDW, but I've never heard anyone's opinion on it.

thanks! :goodvibes

I do not think it is as good as the foie gras at V&A, but then what is? It's still pretty good. I liked it here better than I did at Bistro de Paris. I think the foie gras itself tastes pretty much the same but what it's paired with can make a huge difference in the overall taste of the dish.

I've also had it here before but it was not paired with a pear (that sounds funny) but with an applesauce of some sort. I liked the pear better.

I wasn't going to say anything but then I changed my mind ... I do that a lot. ;)

I appreciate and understand exactly where you're coming from - I don't like the idea of animal cruelty in the food chain either. But to single out foie gras production, which is limited to something like three farms in the US, seems to be missing the mark.

Do you eat pork, chicken, eggs, or beef? There is just as much cruelty in the industrialized farming of these animals as there is in the production of foie gras, the only difference is that the pork, poultry, and beef industries make billions of dollars annually and pay lobbyists to look out for their interests so that it's very hard to take constructive action against their practices.

Money talks. And it looks so much better to decry the inhumane treatment used in the production of foie gras because it's still not something that is consumed in large numbers in the US which means it doesn't affect a lot of average American pocketbooks.

I don't see any cities banning the sale of chicken, pork, or beef. :rolleyes1

OK, so I'm not a foodie, obviously...I had to go look up what it was:confused3
Well, now I know, and don't worry, folks, they won't have to fatten any ducks for me!

We didn't like the foie gras at Bistro either.

I agree that it seems to taste best when paired with apples or pears - thanks so much for the information. Can't wait to see the picture when I get home!

I had foie gras for the first time this past November at V&A chef's table.....wow!! It was wonderful!!! I am going to order it at V&A this year too and may also have it at Cali Grill!!! YUM YUM....and I can't get it in Illinois!!

Lets try to keep this thread on topic so it can continue to be helpful and not turn it into an animal cruelty debate. Thanks!

:) I knew I would be stepping on some toes. :) You're right, the cruelty is everywhere. It just bothered me because these animals have tubes shoved down their throats and are forced fed several times a day, which just seemed extraordinarily cruel to me. Everyone who eats meat knows animals are killed in order to eat it but not everyone knows or wants to know how foie gras is produced. And I started not to say something originally too, and then changed my mind. :) Just my opinion.

I apologize to the OP if what I said was offensive for I'm sure that's not the kind of information they were looking for when they posted their question. :upsidedow

*No further comments on the subject* ;)

Not speaking for the original poster, but you didn't step on my toes. :goodvibes

I usually don't say much about stuff like this but was feeling chattier than usual today, so I just thought I'd throw it out there for consumption. ;)

Having said that, if you ever do get a chance to try foie gras (seared ... eat it warm in my humble opinion) give it a go. I tried it for the first time at V&A and was really surprised by how good it was. It's not something we order very frequently, it's too expensive, but every now and then (usually on vacation) we find ourselves at a restaurant that serves it and we'll split an order. If prepared well it really is a wonderful taste treat.

Alrighty then ... I really do have to get some work done today.

Thanks again for the picture, Pakey! It looks fab! :thumbsup2

Just so everyone is aware.....DH & I always go to CG every year and one of the menu items we LOVE is the foie gras. Imagine our surprise when it wasn't on the menu last year during F & W fest. We enquired of the server why and she stated that CG is required to take it off the menu during F & W so that it doesn't interfere with any dishes being prepared at F & W events by the visiting chefs.

I may never get over it!: :sad2:

Say it isn't so!!! :scared1:

We're going to be at CA Grill during October ... are you telling me I can't order this? :confused3

I can't say for sure this year, but that is what happened to us last year. We too will be there in October again this year (it was October for us last year) and we have our adr set for CG so we can only hope.

BTW, oybolsoi, I absolutely LOVE your dining reviews. You are a true talent!
I cannot wait until you get back in October/November to read your latest installment.

We are not worthy!!!:worship: :worship:

I believe it is only banned in the city Chicago and the entire state of California. Personally, I find it to be quite tasty. I order it once a week at my favorite restaurant.

No apology necessary. I'm pretty hard to offend; I have already heard it from my animal loving DD. Fact remains, I have never tried it and intend to at the Cali Grill. Sorry, in return, if that offends you. :)
