And if so, how did it turn out?

We will soon be looking for someone to replace our (laminate) kitchen countertops and we are not sure who to have do the work. (We are also not sure what we want to replace them with..) We have both HD and Lowes here and they both advertise that they can do the work but we don't know anyone who has had it done through either.

Any DISers go through it??

Thanks for any help..

No, but my friend had them do her roof and windows and was very happy. We are going to get an estimate from them for siding/roof/windows and doors for next summer.

We have had Lowes and HD install doors for us and we've had trouble with both doors (the Lowe's story is a nightmare of a story!). We had Lowes look at possibly redoing our countertops last year. We didn't go with them b/c they wouldn't guarantee us that no damage would happen to our appliance garage (it's part of the cabinets which hide the toaster, etc. and has a pull down "garage" door). They said it was possible that it could crack during installation (it rests on the countertops).

We ended up not going with them and had a private dealer who Corian recommended install it. (we went with Corian). They guaranteed no damage to the appliance garage. Plus we got a free Corian seamless sink ($800 value).

We had Lowe's do our countertops and had a really great experience...I really think it probably varies store by store...We tried HD but the people weren't very helpful or knowledgable and that is what made us try Lowes...The people who helped us were great and the workers we had did a great job. We love it!

please consider going to a local supplier and asking about local contractors that do countertops. I install laminate and have gone behind both HD and Lowes,, they are know to hire at a set rate, normally way below what they charge you,( which is based on going rates in your area ,) and the installers are often times not as knowledgable as they should be, nor are they really worried about the final outcome as they dont have to stand behind it the store does. as local guy will often be cheeper in the long run, and do much better work, as he has to stand behind the install himself. in 21 years i have only had one countertop i hAD to redo.. and it was due to a faulty nail gun not attaching the overlay right. cost to the customer.... $0.00 please consider the local guys first. i think you will end up much happier.

We got our Corian countertops with seamless sink from Home Depot. That said, I believe HD hired a local Corian specialty contractor to custom-make and install them. We are very, very happy with the results.

No--but my private kitchen contractor who replaced them is also the same guy that Lowe's sends on over....and it was cheaper to go through him. You have to do your own searching as obviously a conflict of interest to go over to Lowe's and HD to ask who does the installs so that you can contack them yourself.

You can save yourself some money instead of paying him and giving HD some profit ;)

We were at our neighbros today, they just had cabinets and countertops installed by Lowes. They looked great and they were happy. Funny thing is, the owner works at Home Depot.
