Anyone have experience with Memorial Day, the actual day?

Staying offsite for a week over Memorial Day weekend and I'm trying to fit everything into our schedule while avoiding the parks for those 3 days, but...

(thanks to the person who posted this site!)

shows Memorial Day as a good day to visit Magic Kingdom, in fact it's the only day during our stay that shows it as a good day for MK???? Maybe it's a travel day?

We've been to Disney on Labor Day and I'm always surprised at how uncrowded it is, but I never dreamed Memorial Day would be ok.

All three Univ hotels show availabitiy for Sunday and Monday nights?...

Anyone have any suggestions...a Univ Park on Monday, trust the chart for MK or skip it?

Thanks a bunch!!!

We did 26 attractions at MK on a Memorial Day but had the extra hour in the morning. There were a lot of people.

Wow!!! I don't think we did that much at MK during Hurricane Francis when every attraction was walk on....wow...all I can say is you must have your family trained well. LOL! With snack and bathroom breaks and those darn gift shops at the exits, I feel like all I'm doing all day is nagging and dragging dh and ds.

I think we'll try Univ since we have power passes, too much risk for a day at MK, plus I noticed that the chart doesn't have holiday next to it, so maybe they didn't take that into account, hard to believe, but maybe.

Thanks a bunch!

We were at Universal last year on Memorial Day and did not have any problem with crowds. We did have our room keys, though. Going back Memorial Day again this year, so it could not have been that bad.

It wasn't the whole family. It was DS (6 at the time), a friend 10 and I. It was well planned and required a devoted hustle and a couple of sprints. With the extra hour and some tricks to be the first through the turnstile we gained 6 attractions before 9 and lined up at the Frointierland rope for a sprint to Splash Mt. when the park opened. We left at noon, returned at 4 and commando toured until midnight. The 10 y.o. met his family at noon as we were leaving and we caught up with their party at 7 p.m. for dinner at Epcot. They looked like they had been drug through a knot whole and all the 10 y.o. could do was shake his head and tell me how much more we saw that morning than they saw the rest of the day.

We haven't been to MK in awhile and you sure have motivated me to get planning. Universal has spoiled me. That's really neat that you gave that 10 year old a great Disney experience! Thanks for the hints!

Thanks for the info Zaxsmom. Have a great trip!

Yes, I have been there during memorial weekend. I am going during this memorial time this year.

It is crowded, but I have also been there during July 4th and this is a MORE crowded/worse time than memorial weekend.

Thanks so much for the info. That's good to hear and I love how that guideline is broken down.

Before ds started school, we always went after Labor Day and the week after Jan 1st, which are listed as the best times to go, and now I have such a hard time going when it's busy and expensive....I know suck it up, at least we're going. LOL!

Thanks!
