Hello,

I tried doing a search and I can't seem to find anything related to this. I am sure there is something, but I just can't find it.

Anyway, we have lived in our house for almost 6 years now and we noticed that when we are away from the house we are fine as far as allergies go but when we come home we both get stuffy and have allergies. We just got back from WDW and I am noticing that I am fine while I am out, but when I get home, I start to get a headache. This happens every day. So we talked about getting an ionic breeze or something similar to that but we don't know if it would work. Does anyone have any suggestions on what we can do? I am sure that it is a combination of the dust, we live in a windy area and get a lot of dust, plus we have two dogs. The problem with something like the ionic breeze is the lack of air movement, it does not circulate the air throughout the house. I have read that the ionic breeze isn't really what they say it is, but would something along those lines work? I do vaccuum and clean the house weekly, so I don't know what else to do.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks in advance.

Jamie

I've heard the Ionic Breeze machines tend to break fairly easily. I have a EcoQuest Fresh Air. It's a little temperamental, but I've been happy with it.

What do you mean by it's temperamental? Does it not work properly all the time depending on temperature and humdity? Just curious?

Thanks!

If there is any moisture/condensation in the machine, it won't work. I bought an extra ionic plate, flter, etc. so I can clean it without having to let it sit and collect moisture.

I have both an Ionic Breeze (Office) and an EcoQuest (home). Do not bother buying an Ionic Breeze. It does not seem to clean the air to any appreciable degree.

So, the EcoQuest is pretty good? Any other suggestions. It's too bad the Ionic Breeze doesn't work too well..............it looks like a cool concept.

Total waste of money. I can't believe they are still making them. They do collect something. A black gook collects on the blades and is a PITA to clean off. I'm not sure what the gook is, but it had zero effect on the amount of dust in my house or my allergies.

The best thing I've found to remove dust, hair & allergens is a Dyson vacuum.

I also have an ecoquest.
I loved it. It has made a huge difference in my allergies. I can usually tell when it isabout 2 days before I get the needs cleaning warning. My allergies start acting up.
Infact I need to clean mine tomorrow.

We have an AirSource. One does the whole house. It has really changed the air quality in our home. My DS used to have an allergy cough that would kick in at bedtime and keep him awake for hours. Now we have no problems. It drops the dust out of the air, we love it. I didn't want anything I had to clean all the time... I have a hard enough time keeping the plants watered. :rotfl:

We bought several ionic breeze machines for the shelter. Within a few days of plugging them up, staff started complaining of headaches. I actually had to go home because of my head hurting so bad that I was just sick to my stomach. This went on an on until we finally unplugged the ionic breeze machines and then everyone's headaches went away. We are not sure what one has to do with the other, but it made every single member of the staff sick!

Also, if you are getting sick only in your home, have your home inspected for mold. That might be what is causing your problems.

Thanks everyone for responding. I appreciate all the help!

Rella Belle -Thanks for the info on the the air source, We have been looking at the website and we are serously thinking about this one.

dmslush - Thanks for the information... we never really thought to think of mold in the house. Can that happen in dry places? I know that sounds dumb, but we have never had these issues. We live in a dry area so we didn't really think that could happen.

Thanks again everyone.

No experience with the Ionic Breeze here, but you mentioned how your allergy symptoms went away at WDW -- DH and I experience the same thing when we are away from home. This has happened in our house and the two apartments we had before that. Then we noticed a difference once when our cat was at the vet for several days. So figure it's our cat, since it's really the only common thread. If you have pets, you may have minor allergy-type symptoms and not even realize it until you're away from them.

If you're getting headaches, make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector that works properly.

As someone else mentioned about allergies, it could also be various cleaning solutions you are using. The very things you think are cleaning your ome may be what is giving you & everyone the symptoms.

http://www.allergybuyersclub.com/ is an EXCELLENT place to buy from! Lots of products, information, and ratings.

I purchased the following one and am so pleased. It has an auto sensor and can adjust the speed based on the air quality. It is the perfect size for me bedroom and although the whisper setting is not a whisper, it provides the right amount of white noise I need to sleep well!

As far as cleaning products go check out Seventh Generation. They have a lot of natural cleaners, some without fragrance or dyes.

We have a strong feeling that the reason we are icky inside is a combination of the dust and pet dander. We have two dogs and it seems that they are always shedding something! I've wondered too if I get a better vacuum if that would work out some of the issues that we are having. My vaccum is 6 years old and I have always hated it! It is a Hoover....we may have to try something a little better to see if that helps any.

Thanks again everyone!

You might try the Dyson Animal. Or definitely get one with a HEPA filter. This way you aren't blowing the dander back into the room.
