Hi to all my favorite people when I have an off-disney question and I always get helpful answers.

This time about Corian countertops - who has them and do you like them. We are a family of 5, three kids and I do home daycare, so how do they stand up in your kitchen.

I originally went looking for a nice laminate or formica, but once you figure labor, corian is not that much more expensive and I figure maybe more durable. Any and all feedback is appreciated.

THANKS!!!

:thanks:

Hi,
We had Corian and it was really easy upkeep. If you have a stain, just sand it out. Your question has me longing for the ease of maintenance.
In this house,we have brazillian cherry countertops with no sealer and I have to oil them once a week to keep them lookin good. Corian was the good ol' days.

I don't have any but I am constantly drooling over them at my local Home Depot.....

Personally, I like the look of granite better, but in this house I have corian in my kitchen and in my bathroom and I really like it. Both rooms have the seamless corian sinks which makes clean-up incredibly easy. The sinks are white and I clean them with Soft Scrub with bleach and they look brand new. The countertops are easy to clean. One warning...they do scratch, so you can't cut directly on the countertop....which I could do with granite (although it wasn't good for my knives ;) Overall though...great product that looks a thousand times nicer than Formica.

Well I have granite and while I like the look of it, I do wish I had the corian at times. I am so darn delicate with my grantie, I dont even cut on it or put hot things on it like you can. All around my sink it has chipped! Grrrr I just found some more chips along the backsplash. I baby the darn stuff so I cant imagine whats going on. Its times like these I wish I had the corian like my neighbor does. Im sure you will enjoy it!

We have Corian with seamless sink and absolutely love it. Would buy again in a heart beat!

We have Corian countertops with the seamless sink and I love it. We are a family of four but usually have 7 extra children in our house daily. We are the hang out house of the neighborhood. In our last house we had granite but I prefer the Corian. It can withstand more of a beating from the children when they are fixing snacks and it also cleans well.

We have corian in the kitchen with the seamless sink. I love it!! I comet the sink out and Windex the countertops. Seems that no matter what I use leaves water marks, but the Windex makes it look good. :)

Also check out Silestone... a little more expensive, but we love it. Its as tough as Granite, but never needs to be sealed. My parents have Corian in their house and they love it, btw.

Another vote for Corian! We have had it for at least 8 years and love it everyday. It was well worth it :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

Corian cannot handle heat so don't put anything hot directly on it... Ours developed an 18 inch crack coming out from the biggest burner of the cooktop (not our fault). It was fixed beautifully under warranty - couldn't tell where they put the new piece in! Also make sure you have a certified installer do the work as that's the only way you can get the manufacturers warranty.

I need to call the manufacturer after reading all the great reviews!

I've had my countertops which are ok and seamless sink for 3 years. Every drop of anything red stains my white sink Immediately!! I keep softscrub on the sink and a tough scrubber. I have 2 spots of tomato sauce in the sink right now. I have tried everything to get them out, and will sand it tomorrow.

Water spots on my countertops any time I use water based cleaner.

I complained to Lowes, and of course, they had nothing to offer as far as what the problem was or if there was some kind of polish or sealer to help.

I've had stainless sink before any didn't like that either! so I don't know the answer. Maybe I have a bad sink.

In my kitchen I have a corian countertop and a white seamless corian sink....I also use soft scrub and have the same great clean up. My kitchen island is a granite, so that is where I put my hot items. I have a speckled white corian in my bathroom also and have enjoyed it.

Another vote for Silestone! We've had it for 2 years. I cut on it, put hot pans on it. Once I got crazy glue on it and scrapped it off with a brillo pad - you can't ruin it and there is absolutely no maintenace.

disgal, you can try this for the tomato stains: fill the sink with HOT water and 1 cup of bleach. Just let it sit for a while before draining; should do the trick!

I like my Corian over all, but wish it was a different color; it's too dark for my kitchen. But dark blue was "in" when I built this house (early 90s), so that's what I have.....didn't realize how dark the kitchen would end up overall. Oh well! Still looks great, though....practically brand new! I have one bleach stain on the dark blue; ex-husband spilled bleach on it and didn't wipe it up. Most people probably wouldn't even notice it. It's just a lighter blue than the rest of the counter.

You can just use soap & water on the Corian top. I use Tilex in my sink if I get a stain. We make Counter tops. I put hot pots on mine & crock pots. :hippie:

Our island is silestone & it's great! I can't compare it to corian for wear, but I like the look better. I am a real estate agent and around here a lot of people have granite & the corian looks dated in comparison.

We chose silestone over granite because we thought it would be easier to deal with than granite, and possibly easier to match later (not counting on that though). We were on a tight budget for our kitchen remodel, so we did laminate on the back counters and silestone on the island. We're happy with both. The laminate is very light and needs a little bleach (or fantastic with bleach) to get out red wine.

I wish I had rhe corian and seamless sink. OUr house is only 3 years old, though!!
Anyway, my inlaws have the corian and seamles sink and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! No problems with cleanup and the seamless sink is just amazing to see....It just looks like part of the counter....

Wish I could have it!

I've put lots of hot pans on my Corian and never had a problem. Maybe I've just been lucky thus far?

My "husband" (boyfriend of five years with commitment issues...we also have a son together) fabricates and installs Corian and Himacs (sp?). They are beautiful. You should not put anything hot near a seam in the countertop, or it may cause a crack (finding the seam is very difficult, and the installer should tell you where any are located, if you even have one). He usually gives customers a cutting board and some trivets in the same color to use, since you don't want to scratch the surface. He has seen burn marks in countertops from people putitng pots/pans directly on, so the trivets are nice for that. Dark colors show scratches a ton more, so a neutral would be your best bet (of course, my favorites are all dark colors). I have heard him mention people staining their sinks, but it does sand out. Anyways, the Hi-macs tops are cheaper, but have a longer warranty. Your Lowe's should have that material as well (his company subs jobs out for Lowe's in some PA locations). Hope that helps!!
