Hello all

Have still yet to book flights for next years holiday as we are hoping to get a reasonable price - so far they are coming in at £875 with no discount for kids...!

To top that off DH has decided to go to Phoenix first for an Astronaut convention so the plan has totally changed - we are now planning to go from Gatwick on the 160807 to Phoenix / Phoenix to Orlando on the 190807 and the Orlando to Gatwick on the 010907.

So far the qoutes have been coming in at £4500 which is so expensive. I know that we are going ta a peak time but can anyone recommend any travel groups that may be accommodating with regards to multi-stops.

Personally i wish i'd have taken the kids out of school and had the fine - it would still be cheaper!!! And no i'm not starting up that debate just having a moan!!!! :confused3

Cheers all

How many of you are there?...The best price I found for next August was £2200 ..Fly drive..For Two adults , two children..Aug 20th to sept 3rd.
This is direct to Orlando.
I think the prices seem more than last yr..I think our flights this Aug were about 1800 for the same time.

There are 2 adults and 2 kids. I have just been browsing sites and wondered whether we would be better off waiting for the BA sale in January......gosh its so hard knowing what to do = if only i had that crystal ball....lol

Its a chance you take i know...blimey i think im going to be bald by the end of all of this - either that or have a whole heap of extra grey hairs :)

Decisions, decisions..i'm even wondering whether the villa dates might be flexible and wondered whether we could change them without any penalties because if you go a few days after the 18th to Orlando the prices drop considerably................

We're also going round and round in circles over flights for next August. We can be flexible in terms of dates and destination airports, but we really need to fly with Virgin (it's cheaper because we have loads of Flying Club miles to play with). We've spent hours on the phone and we've got ourselves into a real pickle! It doesn't help that Virgin's site is throwing out eroneous prices at the moment (c £300 round-trip Economy). Going for a lie down :rotfl2: .

Don't get me started about Miles+Money and next August .... Grrrrr

Hey Deb, if you are there next August are you going to show me the 'delights' of Epoct and try to change my opinion of the it being Ikea around a lake? :thumbsup2 ;)

It's a date! :thumbsup2

Flight & fly-drive prices in the summer are high, same as they are at other holiday periods such as Easter.

Problem is , and a much discussed subject on here, a lot of us are restricted to either going in the summer or not going at all.

July & August are not ideal times to visit Florida by any means, as the temperatures are so high - having to deal with all this plus paying through the roof prices make it hard work overall.

Taking your child out of school (another popular topic) is a personal choice and I don't think anyone should say whether you (or anybody) should consider that or not.
Unfortunatley, we cannot do that as my wife is a teacher.

Cannot really recommend any low price flights, we travel with Virgin, our price for next July comes in at £699 adult and £299 child, which was actually less than we paid this August.
(we are probably cancelling anyway - long story).

Good luck :)

I've been trying to price flights from Ireland flying out at the end of July and back towards the end of August and the flight prices are brutal :guilty:

Continental want nearly £800 more than we paid with them for the past 2 years for the 4 of us and Delta are about £500 more. I'm currently looking at flights with US Airways which are about what we paid last year. :confused3

We've got Virgin air miles / points to burn but they're not releasing seats for use on this scheme for August. If you want to travel in term time it's not a problem. Unfortunately, having children and my DW who works at school, we have to go during the school holidays.

We could've taken the gamble and waited to see if Virgin would release Miles+Money seats for August next year but I don't like gambling, especially not with a holiday. We've now booked with Virgin and I'm glad we did after looking at the seating diagrams - there are loads of seats on our flights already taken. As time goes by these are going to fill up even more reducing the chances of getting miles + money seats at all, let alone 6 together!

If anyone does get cheap seats (especially on VA) for next August - well played!

TCD are doing a fly drive mid August for about £2500 for next year. (2 ads and 2 kids)

That is more than we've paid in the past though by about £300. :sad2:

Does that mean your looking then :surfweb: ;)

If you have enough points (20,000) would going for a companion flight next August work out at saving similar to point plus money?

Never booked campanion seat. Just read T&C's it says only available on class Y,B,L, the economy seats I am looking at are Q going out and X for the return trip. I presume they would not do companion bookings on these. Its so confusing. :guilty:
we have 21,000 each and son has 8,000 so would like to try use them if poss.

After buying a car on the Virgin Credit Card and then using it on anything & everything, I've got just shy of 60,000 points now and was going to blow them on next the trip next August ... until Virgin shot the idea down :(

Virgin say we can use them when the kids are at school but the point is we can't go anywhere then! Hope you get something sorted out Wayne.

The Companion and Upgrades on the LGW routes are few and far between (according to Lee in the 'Premier Team' who seems to know what he's talking about). They can normally sell the seats on those routes and only release the Companion and Upgrade classes 7 days before the flight (if they haven't sold on the regular fares). Hence we've been considering flying in and out of Miami (or in to Boston and out of Miami - another story).

AndRu - we're currently planning on 4-25 August (could change a bit depending on what Flying Club deals we can get). See you there! :thumbsup2

I booked my holiday to Florida with just under 12 months to go. I had the ideal hire of a villa but the flights were very hire and costing more than a disney hotel. At the same time I checked out last minute fly drives for July just past and found I could get the four of us flights for £1200 if I was willing to leave it to the last minute and chance my luck next year but with a 4 and 7 year old I want to know something is booked.

we are flying with flyglobespan next august ~ from Glasgow, although we live in London we will be in Sheffield just prior to our hols so thought that flights were a bargain

Business Class for £719 each!!!

I consider booking Globespan every day, but the thoughts of the 4 hourish drive after the holiday I think is too much, looked at flying up but no airline gets us there when we want.
Yes the price is good. Seat size not quite what you expect from BC at 50" (virgin is 79.5" or 82" on upper deck) but at that price I don't think many will complain.

I am looking at exactly the same thing...flying out 8th Aug, back 29th, but we are flexible with the dates. Virgin have been a wash-out, we too have miles to spend but there are no seats available. At the moment BA are coming up cheapest at £2400 for two adults two children. If we had a few more Airmiles it would be £1800! Oh for 3000 airmiles!

We got the Virgin credit card too, and it's a bit of a swizz the companion seats are so restricted, I think!

Think I'm going to bite the bullet and book BA. Just can't take the risk....

Can't believe when we went in February it cost us less than a grand :sad2:
