Anyone have any experience sharing Memory Maker?

There's a group on Facebook for this guy to set up Memory Maker share groups for people's vacations. It has a lot of members and people have said it's a fantastic experience, saved so much money, etc. It only costs around $27. The process is- He finds "8" people that are going around the same timeframe. When you get back from your trip, you then pay him, he links you to his "dummy account" as friends and family and he gives you the log in info of that account so you can then download your photos and videos.

Do you think this is legit? Has anyone done this like this before? I'm just not sure about the whole process. I'm super skeptical but it is tempting.

Thanks for any input about this!

I can't remember how I came across the opportunity (maybe a Disney Facebook group?) but I did this for our trip in 2015 and it worked out great for us. I think it was $25 each and worked exactly how you're describing. I sent her my payment via PayPal and she gave me the login info. We were able to find and download all of our photos with no issues.

Thanks 22Tink! That's good to know. I'm so skeptical though, I'm always thinking, what's in it for them? Do they want your personal info? I don't know. I'm just surprised more people don't do this. It's just not really talked about.

I have shared with friends twice and split the $169 USD cost (both times people I know going around the same time as me), but not strangers. You become “friends and family” on MDE. As long as your trips are within a 30 day period, and you can log in to the account of the person who bought the MM to download your photos, it works great. It actually works better to find and download only your photos if your park days don’t overlap (ex person 1 is going Feb 1-8, person 2 is going Feb 12-19)

That's the thing- You're not actually friends and family with the strangers and you can just scan your band for your photopass pics like normal and view them while on your trip. When you get back he sends you the memory maker account login info and you go on and download your pics. No one can see your info and your trip is over so no worry of plans being affected.

But you would have to be friends with this account in MDE otherwise your photopass photos wouldn’t show up in the account. And you can only download pics from the account that has the photopass. When we shared with my family my sisters could see their pictures but they couldn’t download any unless they were logged into my account or my moms account since we were the ones who had the photopass.

I’ve done it several times and it has always worked out fine . I ran one once when the person running it needed someone to take over. The only thing in it for me was getting my photos at a much more reasonable cost . It’s legit, but everyone has to do their part and follow the directions for it to work. Most, if not the majority of people want it to work because those are their photos and memories too. Everyone has the same motivation . I would do it again, though running it was more work than I thought and not something I would stress over again. It’s certainly a risk vs. Reward scenario .
Once upon a time groups were organized here I think but it’s no longer allowed.

I wouldn't share pics with someone you don't know and too many ways it can turn out to be a scam. Obviously, it is a scheme to get around paying for the package on your own and isn't something I would ever do.

You are not "friends and family" with the memory maker account until you get back and he adds you. He will then give you the login info of this account so you can actually download your photos, So you are essentially the "dummy account" downloading YOUR photos.

I’ve done it twice with the guy on Facebook. It worked perfectly, and I never saw anyone’s photos except for mine. He gave me a download day/time and when I was done, I messaged him and he must have removed me as a ‘friend’ so I couldn’t see anyone else’s photos, ever.

Done it three times and hosted twice on another forum but never on FB so it can be legit. I don’t think those shares are allowed on the DIS.

I was the host on our last trip in 2015. While the exact details are fuzzy, there were no issues. The motivation is the savings.

Right....I was just pointing out that you do have to be friends at some point to access the pictures, which you verified.

I don’t think we have shares on this board. Someone referred me to FB. I know the last time I did a share, the gal gave us her login information to get the photos

Sounds like the only way it can be a scam is if you pay the $25 and the person fails to send the actual link.
You can technically purchase photos/Memory Maker after your trip anyway, right? So you don't lose any pics - you'd just lose the $25 if you pay the guy and he doesn't send the log in info.
Hmm.
