Anyone have an outdoor hot tub/spa?

Generally the reputable names rarely go on sale. You can buy one out of a parking lot once in a while, but buyer beware. Your best best is to start looking now and watch-out for 2006 model sell off's, or instances where you may be able to offer $1K less to take a floor model or stocked 2006 off their hands to make room for the new models.

The beachcomer dealer in London on Wharncliffe always seems to have some kind of sale going on wether it is a truckload sale or a model year sell off or some other sale he always discounts his tubs by up to 2500.00

Wow, that is great and very fortunate for those in London that Beachcomber fits their concept of what a Hot Tub should be or is about. To be honest, I got our pretty much at cost. There was a dealer that was switching brands and had about 5 tubs to sell. He gave me a quote just above cost and I gave our local dealer the opportunity to match and they did... So, a tub that was usually $12K we picked up for $8,600 plus $200 delivery.

Great deal it is nice when you can find deals on tubs as they tend to be few and far between.

Thanks for the tips about chicken wire! I'll definitely throw a few sheets of that around the wiring to prevent mice partying in my tub!

As for the electrical, has anyone put the breaker in themselves and not been a licensed electrician. Quotes are running me at about $1000 for an electrician to do it...but the dealer says he'll give me a tutorial on how to do it myself. I've wired new lighting fixtures in the ceilings, but never anything else. It's a given that water and electricity don't mix. I'm pretty hesitant about wiring this bad boy up myself to be honest...does a $1000 sound right...or would you do it yourself?

Peace - Levon

I do many of the electrical things around the house but this is one thing I left to the liscenced electrician better safe than sorry plus if you do it yourself and something ever were to happen your insurance company can deny the claim due to it not being done by a liscenced professional mind you 1000.00 bucks does sound high we had ours done for 250.00.

We did all the grunt labour ourselves... dug trenches for burried wire, ran the wire, placed the boxes and then let an electricial friend to the connections. We also got an electrical permit for the job to make sure all was to code. The final connections took maybe 1/2 hour.

The materials (GFI, 6G Underground Wire, Pony Box for our Pannel, 60A Breaker etc, probably ran us 600-750. It was the underground high 6G wire that killed us!
