If so, how do you like it? Is it any slower than being directly connected to the cable/dsl modem itself? What model do you use?

I am thinking about getting our laptops connected this way at home and would like some feedback.

Thanks,
Tom...

We have one. It doesn't seem any slower to me. We have a D-Link AirPlus wireless card and router.

We have one, though I rarely use it. DH uses it all the time since he's the one with the laptop. Occasionally he notices slowdown, but most of the time, it works great.

We have a Linksys router with wireless capabilities. Not sure of the model, though.

We did have some problems with it at first, but it's settled down quite a bit lately.

We have one here...It's nice because you can be online downstairs while you're on your laptop. If you get one though you have to be sure to make it very secure. We have a program that detects wireless networks and we drove around the block and there were a couple of open wireless networks around here that anyone can just hack in to. Ours here is very secure though and we love it.

I know DH says ours is incrypted-- I'm not sure about the details though.

I have both wired and wireless networking through the house. The wireless is fast enough for surfing the internet, email etc. All of the modern 802.11 b systems are as fast as your cable modem. Where you will see a difference is if you are copying large files between computers or sharing large files.
The new 802.11 a standard is as fast as a wired network.
I have used both Linksys and D-Link in various places and both seem to work pretty reliably.
Stay away from the very cheap 2 mbs systems, although I doubt you will even see them around much.
You secure the system using what is called WAP encryption the manual will tell you how to do it. It can set the system to only respond to certain computers as well as providing encrypted passwords etc.

We also have both.....I think it's what Alex said....seems to work well for me...:D :D :D

Yup to what Alex said...we have both too, and I love it...Wouldn't be with out!!! :) :)

We have a SMC wireless router and wireless cards in the desktops and laptops around the house. It also has 3 wired ports and a parralell port and print server.
