I need to replace my old wood wall inground pool that has a sand pool filter. I am looking into either a saline pool filter or reverse osmosis filter. Does anyone have either of these?? Pro/Cons?? Do you like the results??? With the saline filter does the water taste salty??? Does the saline water hurt your eyes if you open them underwater???? Are these systems expensive to maintain???

We have an above-ground pool with a salt-water filter. It's wonderful and I love it. It's so easy to maintain and I don't have to worry about having chemicals around with little kids.

The water's salt level is about the same pH as human tears, so no it does not burn your eyes nor does it taste like salt. In fact, it makes your skin feel so much better than conventional chlorine. Our swimsuits don't fade and it's much more cost effective.

The only con is with the initial set up and getting the salt-level correct. Once that is accomplished, the rest is cake.

We have the saline and love it. it is much cheaper to maintain and much easier. There is a small salt taste to the water but not like the sea. The water feels softer too and is much easier on hair and skin.

Ok, I did some googling - I couldn't find a saline generator that would replace a sand filter. Maybe I just missed it? :confused3

The sand filter that needs replacing is to filter large(ish) particles out of the water.

The saline generator creates chlorine, so that you wouldn't have to add chlorotabs or liquid chlorine. As far as using a saline generator to create chlorine - I love it. It is easier on our eyes, and my skin feels great. I can taste a slight salt taste, but it is no where near as salty as ocean water.

I don't know anything about reverse osmosis pool filters, but we use a small one for our fishtank. There is a TON of wasted water in the process.
