Anyone have a Quicksilver "flip-out" tent camper made by Livin' Lite?

I saw an ad for these in Pop-UP Times magazine. I really love the concept of this camper. Just wondering if anyone has one, and what do you think of it?

Looks like a nice durable entry level camper for someone with a small tow vehicle but with a canvass top an A/C would have to be mounted through the side. Looks like it would be a nice cool weather rig but down here there is just too much sun and heat.

I contacted the company. They will have an option where an a/c will be mounted through the lower wall of the unit.

We usually don't camp during the summer months anyway, as we much prefer the spring and fall time of the year for camping.

I really like the concept of this camper. My in-laws have a large Jayco pop-up which we borrow fairly often. It's a really nice unit, but there's so much stuff in the way that's really never used. I've always said that I'd like to find a quality popup with just an open interior except for a table/storage.

The in-laws want to sell us the Jayco, but we'd then have to get a truck to pull it.

I live (literally) less than 15 miles from Livin' Lite, the company that makes the Quicksilver... so I'll see if I can get over there some day and check them out. Not sure how soon that will happen (I don't get to Goshen every day) but when I do, I'll be sure to "file a report!"

I'm really anxious to find out about this pop-up myself... having grown up in a camping family, I love camping. But, we have one of the new VW Beetles for Brian's work (so, for now, it's tent-camping for us!) My quest in life (besides all things Disney!) is to find a pop-up that can sleep our family of 4 and yet be towed by our Bug! (Not an easy task, but not impossible, I hope!)

I'll let y'all know what I find out!

Sorry that I took so long to get this report in!

Brian and I made a spontaneous trip over to the Quicksilver factory in Goshen yesterday... and I'm very impressed with the units! We talked to Rodney, who is one fantastic fellow (and the owner of LivinLite RV) - he even gave us a quick tour of the construction of the Quicksilver units. No wood at all used in these puppies! (So no rotting and a lot less weight with the aluminum!)

We're pretty sure we'll be able to tow one of the 8 foot units with our Beetle (we'll definitely check out the tow capacities prior to buying a unit, though!) I was simply amazed at how spacious even the 8-foot units appear inside! The Quicksilver would be perfect for our purposes - we don't require a lot of the bells and whistles that you get in other folding trailers, and motorhomes are way out of our league! Stevenpensacola is right... we'd just have a lot of the "extras" in our way with other pop-ups. We're pretty bare-bones when it comes to our camping style.

And yes, they are now offering an A/C unit option... you slide it out a built-in side door when you set up camp - a very ingenious solution. In fact, we were so impressed with all the thought that has gone into making this trailer - a lot of "thinking outside of the box!" Oh, and set-up would be an absolute breeze! Maybe a five-minute job for 2 to do, probably 10 at most for one person only.

Rodney is the fellow that answers all the email questions... he did say he usually waits a couple days until the questions number 10 or so and then he responds. So don't give up hope if you email and don't get an immediate response... he'll definitely answer!

You want to be really careful. I just checked the tow ratings guides over at Trailer Life Magazine and the only things they have listed from Volkswagen are the Eurovan and Taureg. The Beetle was not listed in the 2004, 2003, or 2002 guides. It may not be modifiable for towing, but I could be wrong.

The 8 and 10 foot models list a GVWR of 1500 pounds. You may want to look at a gently used small SUV or pickup.
