I recently was given a Pfaff sewing machine by my mother. She only used it once or twice. I have no idea how to sew or even where to start. I believe it uses a cd and has an embroider on it.

I would suggest that you find out where she got it because they are supposed to come with free lessons on how to use it. My mother bought one and didn't like it, was used to her old Singer and didn't want to learn how to use the Phaff. After she died, I took it in to the sewing center where she bought it and they have offered to give me the free lessons instead since my mother never took advantage of it. And this was three years later!

It's a very good machine and if you sew at all, you will love it once you learn how to use it. It's worth investigating anyway...

I have a Pfaff and I love it. It's such a sturdy, hard working machine. No problems even sewing through six and eight layers of flannel. I agree with going back to a dealer though, they are wonderful and can help a lot.

Thanks for the advise!!! I just need to find out where she bought it from. It just seems sooo complicated!!!!! It is in 2 parts and they are both in a case that resembles luggage!!!!! I can think of so many things to sew!!! I just need to get some lessons!!!!

Depending on when she bought it, it is either a 7570, 2140 or 2144. I have had a 7570 for about 8 years and I LOVE mine. The 2140 and 2144 are basically the same machine, just a hardware upgrade. It has a touch screen etc. The 7570 is an older model. I can't justify the additional money for the 2144!

I just checked its a 2140 model. It is just sitting in the corner of our junk room. I know I need to get it out and play around with it. I hate the thought of going and taking lessons somewhere. Think I could just teach myself?

Well if you aren't going to use it I send it on over and I'll put it to good use!

I think, if you already know how to sew, you can teach yourself to sew on the machine, but f you want to use the embroidery then I think classes are a must. I taught myself but it took years and lots of tears. I still don't use the embroidery like I'd like, but from what I understand the 2140 is a lot easier to embroider than the 7570. I know the software is a lot easier to understand.

The biggest problem it the manuals aren't very good. The screen shots are still in german so you can't really follow along. (This may have changed for the 2140 I have no idea.)
