I'm tired of sharing a camera with DH so I'm thinking of getting one for myself. I've found some great deals on the coolpix models. Just can't decide which one.

Can anyone share their experiences?

TIA!

I bought me one before my trip last year and I love mine. You can do so much with the camera that i am not even taking my camcorder with us this year. I am still learning about this camera. I got a little S210 and just perfect for what I need it for.

I bought the Coolpix S550 a few months ago- it really is fantastic. Great battery life, great pictures, great video. We're bringing it with us of course, but DH will want to bring the video camera too- I'm sure. I'd recommend it in a second.

I bought my in January 2008 and love it, but unforunately the focus on the camera stopped working and now all of my pictures are fuzzy. I need to call nikon and see if i can send it back to get it fixed b/c i missed the warrenty by 2 months.

We have three Nikon Coolpix and some are better than the other. DH bought a S3 a few years back and it is very compact. I just carry it in my purse and it is always available. The con for me are the sports photos. They are HORRIBLE. DD has a L seriies (an older model we bought off ebay) and it does a lot better on the sports pictures.

Hopefully they have corrected that issue. I know Amazon has some great reviews on these cameras.

Not sure if that was helpful....

I am looking at one too, either that or a Cannon Powershot.

I bought one of these less than 2 weeks ago, and I really like it. My previous digital camera was a Kodak Easyshare, and this one has so many more options (now I just have to figure out how to use them :) ) I got it at the electronics store with the big yellow tag for $280. It is 10MP and has a 15x digital zoom. The zoom is the reason we bought it, it is so hard to find a camera that has over 3x or 4x zoom. It is pretty bulky, so if you were looking for something that is compact, I wouldn't get it, but otherwise its worked great so far.

I'm so glad to hear this!! I just bought one a few minutes ago from best buy. It's on sale and I had gift cards so it came out really cheap for me!! I was wanting a new camera 10mp camera for our trip and this looks just perfect! I can't wait to get it!!!

I have one, mine is the S210. Love that little camera!!!!! Much better than my Canon Powershot that has been trouble from day one. First on the Powershot the lens cover stopped opening, we took it to Best Buy and they said they had to send it away to be repaired, got it back and it was doing the SAME thing so they sent it back again. Got it back the second time and it worked for about a week and then started doing the same thing. I wanted to get a new camera but Best Buy wouldn't do that for me, neither would Canon, they just wanted us to keep sending it back for repair. We didn't send it back, what was the point when it was just going to keep breaking, but we did use it for another year or so, then a ring that goes around the lens popped off and the batteries would drain really fast so I got myself the Nikon Coolpix, I got the purple one and I love it!!!! Takes GREAT photos, it's easy to use and has all the features I was looking for. So now the kids have the Canon and I have the Nikon. :)

DH & I were just looking at these yesterday.

Our decision may hinge on battery type.

Could anyone tell me approximately how long you might be able to use a camera with the rechargable lithium ion battery? I'm just worried about taking a rechargable to Disney and having the battery die while we're in the parks. (Our current camera uses AA batteries, so I always just keep a ziploc baggie full of them in our backpack to replace as necessary.)

I am looking at cameras too. I really want one that does video as well. Some of the cameras that I reviewed said they don't have sound. Does anyone know if the coolpix s550 does? We have a cannon powershot or something and first its heavy, then I had to have it repaired because the shutter wouldn't open. Now the batteries wont stay charged and it's incompatible with my new PC. Time to upgrade. We are going on Disney soon so I'd like to get a new camera to play with before we go to make sure we like it.

thanks!

My current point and shoot (Kodak easyshare 7.0) has a lithium ion battery. The only time that it has ever died on me was at my son's wedding. I was snapping a lot of pictures all day and if finally failed halfway thru the reception. BUT... you can buy an extra battery. My niece has the same camera and at the wedding she simply put in her other battery and shot pics all night. So if I like the coolpix (CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT!!!) then I'm going to get a spare battery off ebay or amazon. Other than that, I plan to charge it every night when I get back to my room and have it for each day.

I bought one during xmas at walmart.com for 90 and it included a 2gb card plus I was able to get for 4gb cards for an extra 20. I got it right before our trip in dec b/c my older dd managed to break my sony that wasn't even a year old. I have some great pics from our trip and have been very happy w/ it. I can use two AA batteries or I can get a rechargeable from nikon which I like so much more plus it is so much lighter than my sony. Over all I have been completely satisfied w/ my new camera I feel my choice was a good especially since I didn't research anything about the camera I just know the brand is pretty good.

ETA~ the nikon I have is the L16

the first three are taken from our balcony at AKL, one from the xmas chocolate set at CR.

My experience is it can take about 200 pictures or so on one charge. (The s550, anyway.) I bought an extra battery for my older coolpix, but never used it. I have no fear of my battery dying on this trip. I will pack the charger, and charge it at the hotel at night, since I'll be photoing more than normal. In truth, we've had this camera since February and I've only had to charge the battery twice since then. I was nervous about switching away from AA batteries, but I'll never go back after using these cameras.

Thanks for this info - I found a deal on the Canon so I was debating getting that one instead of the Nikon, but I think I may stick with the Nikon. :thumbsup2

I HATED mine. I bought the Nikon S560 from Costco. The pictures were always out of focus or grainy. There was no way to improve the quality of the shots. I played with it for three months. Even after reading the instructions cover-to-cover and calling the [un]helpful folks at Nikon, I gave up and returned it to Costco. For a 10 MP camera, it was junk.

I have the s560 and love the features! I just got it last month, and took the book with me to Florida to read on the plane. - I couldn't believe all the things it could do! (And yes, I did read that it has sound.) I'm usually a person who doesn't like the initial change-over to a new piece of "techy stuff", but I found this one very intuitive. And I tried out a lot of the settings on vacation.

I was also worried about the switch from my old AA battery camera to this one having a rechargable, but I did find it lasted a long time. (I only had to charge it once while we were away.) - And it warns you when it gets lower, so you know a bit in advance. I still plan on getting a spare, but I'm glad I didn't let that stop me from choosing it.

I'm asking someone else to let the OP know how the prints come out, though, as we bought such a big card, and were so busy, that I haven't printed yet!

I don't know about the charge time, mine seems to last forever but I'm not a person who takes a bunch of pics. I've never had it die on me when we've been to DL tho, I did have the battery light start to flash tho so I'm going to get an extra battery, just keep forgetting to do it. lol :)

Dh gave me the S610 for Christmas and I love it. It's really easy to operate and compared to my old Sony Cyber-something; it 'boots up' so much faster and it's so lightweight and small. It easily fits in a pocket of my jeans. This works for me since dh has a Nikon D80 (slr) which takes beauuuuuutiful pictures, but it's big, heavy and needs a big carrying bag too.

It seems a digital camera that is 3 yrs old is REALLY old anymore. This is my 3rd dig camera and each time, I feel as if I like my camera until I try the new one! Then I realize how the technology has improved.
He got it on Amazon as well as a 4G card. Holds so many I still haven't put them on my computer yet.

So far, so good. A coworker has the next higher level model with the touch screen. She brought it to work and it was neat. Dh said he didn't get that model cuz reviews on Amazon were mixed and many comments were that the technology is too new. ???

My Nikon Coolpix s550 arrived about an hour ago and I've been playing and playing with it. It has so many features that I 'm trying to figure out the best way to take certain pictures. Is anyone willing to share any pics that they took at disney. I'm a little worried about blurriness from shaking when doing things like riding the monorail, or on slow moving attractions. Also, if anyone has an fireworks pics that were taken using the fireworks mode, that would be great to see!

Thanks!
