I don't plan on spending more than $450 for a washer. I looked at Bestbuy.com and printed some info on the ones that interested me. We have a Maytag dishwasher and I wonder if their washers are just as reliable and trouble-free. Any info is appreciated.

Bestbuy here carries Maytag. That is what we had in our old house and I do miss it. I keep hoping the one we have breaks but may not wait that long to replace it.

Mine's a Maytag, it's 3-4 years old and so far no problems. :)
I wish I could remember the brand name of my first washer and dryer set. The dryer went out first and after numerous repairs we finally replaced it. The washer lasted about 20 years though!
They might have been Sears brand, I dunno tho...

I had a Maytag washer and dryer for 18 years and only had a repairman in once for a very minor problem. The only reason I don't have it now is that we moved to a new house and we sold those appliances with our old house. The washer and dryer that came with this house are definitely not as good. I can't wait to get my Maytags back. In my experience, they were worth every penny.

Hi Rita...ummmm, do you remember my flood?:( It was with a Maytag...HOWEVER....it was a stackable unit, 16 years old. The sensor to have the water turn off once the unit was filled failed. We searched and searched since I had 3 months to get a new one before I had a floor to set it on:rolleyes: and believe it or not bought the Maytag Atlantis. O.K. Fast-forward to nightmare #2...the brand new Atlantis leaked...researched AGAIN....Would've bought whirlpool if I had the $, but so far Maytag Atlantis #2 is doing fine. It does clean the clothes really well and can hold a ton, but I pretty much underload everything...fear of another flood, and it is o.k. noise wise. I know because I never leave the house if it's on. EVER! We paid $550 at best buy origionally, but since we contacted Maytag about the first machine leaking and damaging our brand new wood floor (whole 'nother chapter) we had a significant discount and super-extended warranty offered and we took it. Just about everyone Iknow has either Maytag or Whirlpool.
Good Luck! I know what a headache this can be.

We have a Maytag Neptune washer and drier that we got right after they came out with them a couple years ago. I LOVE them. I never knew a washer could make such a difference in how clean the clothes got. I lilked it so much, I bought a Maytag refridgerator right afterward. I just purchased another Maytag counter depth fridge for our new house too. I am a Maytag convert!!:)

This sounds like a commercial! ;)

I have a Maytag, haven't had it a year, but love it, esp the oversize load feature. Not lots of bells and whistles, but just what I wanted. Pd $575.00 Cdn. for it, about $375.00 US and worth every penny!

That's great! I'm so pleased with our dishwasher, that's the reason I'm considering a Maytag washer.

Our washer has been in our house since we moved in (6.5 years) and I think the previous owners bought it in 1986 or 1987. It has started leaking and it's definitely ready for replacement. We'll probably get one this week, but we're keeping the old dryer.

Thanks!
:D

I have a Maytag Performa washer and dryer.. I bought a new pair last year, and LOVE it!

I love the oversize feature, (I think CC and I have the same one!), and the dryer is wonderful as well.

Best Buy had a sale going on, I paid $800 for the pair, (including tax and delivery), but got a rebate on the delivery, so it was maybe 760 including tax..

One was 379.xx
and the other one was 349.xx (or something like that)

We also have a stackable Maytag. We've had the fuse for the water fill replaced 4 times in 7 years. The 3rd time my husband watched over the repairmans shoulder and figured out what he needed to do to replace it himself. We've done that since and just keep some spare fuses on hand. Fortunately it is an easy repair. Otherwise we've loved the unit, and I especially love having 1/2 a utility room for shelves and storage!

Just purchased a maytag Neptune which I have wanted since they first came out. I wanted this one in hopes of cutting down on my $250 water bill. We paid a lot of $$ for it & 8 weeks later have to call service. Something is wrong with the computer board. I put this in another post recently and most of the responses indicate few if any problems with this washer.

Whatever one buys there is always a chance something will go wrong. I am still optimistic even though somewhat discouraged, that once this is fixed it will be ok.

I bought one about 10 years ago and was told by the repairman who declared it dead that the old Maytags are wonderful but the new ones are just like all the others -- not built to last. That was certainly the case with the one I had.

MY maytag washer and dryer are now 21 yrs old and going strong. If and when anything happens to them I am buying another maytag. The father the same things, over 20 yrs, I swear by their appliances:D

My first washer was a Kenmore that was my Dads. It lasted a total of 21 years.

My second washer was a high end Kenmore that lasted only 10 years before the motor went out. The appliance repair man I have used for several years told me to buy a Maytag. He said that it is by far the most reliable.

The Maytag also had the biggest load capacity. I bought mine at BestBuy and love it. I didn't want any bells or whistles just a large capacity.

This is great info. I'm looking for a washer as well since my old one died. As soon as I can dig out I will make a stop at Bestbuy to see what they have. How's their delivery and service? I had a nightmare with Sear's so I won't buy anything from them that I can't carry.

I will make a stop at Bestbuy to see what they have. How's their delivery and service?

Most bestbuy's contract out their delivery service to a local company, so each area may be different.

That being said, IIRC the delivery charge was around $55 a trip (?) so I had a washer, dryer (both maytag) and a fridge delivered by them.

My install went fine. I did have to hook up the dryer vent myself since the piping they brought wasn't long enough... no biggie, just annoying. They also tried to charge me extra for a seperate gas install on a seperate day, but the delivery guy was able to handle that just fine and so I cancelled the other.

I have had the same Maytag washer and dryer for about 25 years now. We have had to replace a belt on the dryer and on the washer the timer is messed up on the permanent press cycle. It just runs the water in and then out, but everything else works fine. I can live without the premament press cycle. I told my DH the other week that I kind of wished it would tear up so I could get a new one. He just looked at me strangely. But if I ever, and I do mean ever, get another washer it will be a Maytag again!

I'm glad to read so many positive reviews. It does sound like a commercial, doesn't it?;)

I talked to one of my neighbors and they have a Maytag washer/dryer . Their set is 2 yrs. old and they haven't had any problems. I will start looking for one tomorrow, hopefully I will have it by Saturday. Thanks everyone!

I love my Maytag washer and dryer!!!!!!!!

FYI---I did have to have the computer replaced in the dryer once----repair man told me not to use dryer sheets---There is a moisture sensor ( not heat) and the dryer sheets for some reason wear the sensor out. Knock on wood----NO problems for the last 10 years!!!!!!---great advice from the maytag repair man!!!!

My Maytag washer lasted 24 years before it died.
I bought the matching dryer within a month or two of it, and it's still going. It will be 29 years old in September, and has never been repaired.

My MIL swore by Kenmore, so when I replaced the washer- we got a Kenmore. I've had it for almost 5 years now, and it hasn't had repairs either.

Good luck!!
