Just had my gallbladder out yesterday (lapariscopically). I had a large stone and was having pains. Prior to surgery one of the symptoms I had was a feeling of a lump in my throat sometimes after eating. Felt better after sleeping and getting up in the a.m. Surgery was yesterday and did not have this feeling. Today the feeling came back late in the day. I don't know if it's acid reflux. Dr. had put me on Prevacid. Took care of my gas but not this lump feeling. Anyone else have similar symptoms/experience? I'm stressing about it. Thanks!

Maybe it's acid reflux. I always felt like throwing up. The doctor told me once the gall bladder is out, that should go away. It turns out it was acid reflux that made me feel nausious.

I'm getting my gallbladder out in 2 weeks. I also have reflux so the surgeon said it's hard to predict how much improvement I will have. My gallbladder is functioning very low and causing some referred pain. I hope your throat feeling gets better with the meds for reflux. Good luck.

You might also ask your doctor about a hiatal hernia. That also causes the 'lump in the throat' feeling. Before I had my gastric bypass surgery three years ago, both the acid reflux and the hiatal hernia gave me some awful days. However, after the surgery, the reflux went away (no more Zantac) and the hernia rarely bothers me now. It might with dense meat like chicken, but hardly anything else.

It is called "globus" sensation and, yes, acid reflux is the major cause but sinus drainage can do it too. Remember, Prevacid will take many days to get the acid reflux under control. Usually acid reflux will cause some irritation and mild damage to the esophagus and throat. Even though you popped some Prevacid, it will take awhile for that stuff to heal and the sensation to go away.

I don't know if it could be related, but since you just had surgery, and general anethesia, where they placed an endotracheal tube in for breathing, sometimes causes a little throat trauma and swelling which will go away in a few days.
Hope you feel better soon! Just had my gallbladder out in NOV and I don't miss it at all!

Mine was caused as a result of reflux, they had to up my dosage of Prevacid to 60mg a day to get rid of it... It was really awful to have however, so I feel your pain....

Hello Christine, how are you? I have the saw issue as Simba2. I did gallbladder surgery but lump is still there

Welcome to the DIS boards dost. This thread is from 2006 so the original posters may not be around any more. We call these zombie posts and this one may be a petrified zombie post! :welcome:

Zombie post, but yes, it's called globus sensation. It is almost always caused by something happening further down the esophagus because the vagus nerve is not very accurate for sensation. Often, it's sign of a stricture or hernia, so while patients get referred to speech therapy all the time for this, where they usually end up is with gastroenterology.

Thank you Tasha for your message, may I know any details from simba2.
I want to know how he/she feeling now. Did he/she get rid off this?

Can I have the whatsapp of the simba2 or any other details. Because I want to contact her/him directly. I am passing through a difficult time.

Simba2 hasn’t been here in years. Best advice any of us can give you is to talk to your doctor.

Doctors have guided me wrong. They pulled out my gallbladder the symptoms are still there. Same as simba2.
Any contact of the simba2

Simba has not been on this board for 6 years. Nobody would have a way to contact from here. Nik's mom did check in the day after your question. Once you have 10 posts (2 more to go) maybe send her a private message (conversation here).

In any case, welcome to the dis, dost.
