Rethinking the whole taco thing for dinner tonight. Any ideas for something new to do with hamburg?

Cook the hamburger up real fine, drain the fat.

Heat a jar of spaget. sauce
cook 1lb elbow macaronit, drain

mix together and salad on the side, great for leftover's as well... :thumbsup2

Go to allrecipes and look for brown sugar meatloaf.I hate meatloaf but this is incredibly good even better leftover the next day

my dad used to make a cheapie chinese style stir fry with browned hambuger, 1/2 onion diced, aprox 3 cups frozen string beans & about 3-4 tablespoons of soya sauce and the same of water. (add more if it's too dry once the green beans are cooked) serve on rice.

Meatloaf! I have an AMAZING recipe!

The BEST Meatloaf

2 pounds Ground Beef
2 Eggs
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup catsup
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 packet onion soup mix (I use liptons "Beefy Onion Soup Mix")

Combine all liquid ingredients as well as spices in a large bowl and mix well. Add Ground Beef and bread crumbs mixing until all ingredients come together. Your loaf will look a bit "wet" but it comes out incredibly moist after baking.

Shape meat in baking pan or loaf pan and bake for 60-75 minutes at 350 degrees.

**** Do not cover your loaf with additional sauces or ketchup ... you will find this loaf to have plenty of moisture and flavor upon completion.

I wasn't much of a meatloaf pan until I found this recipe!!

How about goulash (actually my Grandma calls this "short spaghetti") - it is really good and EASY...

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
2 cups uncooked macaroni
1/2 chopped onion
1/2 chopped green pepper
2 (8 oz.) cans of tomato sauce
1 cup water
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce

Cook beef in large skillet until redness disappears. Add macaroni, onion and green pepper. Stir. Add tomato sauce, water, salt, pepper and worcestershire sauce. Stir. Cover and simmer 25 minutes, stirring once or twice.

My family makes Lemon Meatballs.

You take the hamburger, add some bread crumbs (about 1 slice of bread per lb), lemon zest, an egg and some parmesan (sp?) cheese (1/2 cup). Form the meatballs roll them in flour and brown in a pan. Once they are browned add a can of french onion soup and a can again of water. Add thinly sliced lemon slices. Simmer for about 20 min. Thicken with cornstarch. Serve over rice.

Amounts are aprox. as I dont measure when I cook. If you want the real measurements I can get out my mothers recipe later. :)

It is very easy and we have even made it using tofu instead of meatballs and we still liked it.

You can also freeze it and reheat.

Cassi, your little princess is gorgeous!

You can make a good, hearty pasta sauce...

--1 lb ground beef
--1 sm onion, chopped
--2 t. minced garlic
--2 cans diced tomatoes
--2 cans tomato paste
--1 T. Italian seasoning blend
--1 t. kosher salt
--2 T. sugar or Splenda

Brown beef with onions and garlic. When meat is done, add tomatoes, tomato paste, and spices/sugar. Stir thoroughly and simmer on medium-low heat for at least 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If you really want a treat, add 1/2 cup light cream or evaporated milk for extra richness. You can also sneak in some extra veggies by adding finely chopped carrots or peppers when you brown the meat.

You can also make kind of a poor-man's stroganoff

--1 lb ground beef
--1 small onion, chopped
--1 t. minced garlic
--fresh or canned mushrooms (optional)
--2 cans cream soup (Use the light version. Any combo of cream of mushroom, celery, or chicken will work.)
--8 oz light sour cream

Brown beef with onions and garlic. Add mushrooms (if using) and cook through. Add soups to the beef, stir to combine, and heat through. Right before serving, add sour cream. Serve with cooked noodles and a vegetable.

You could make mexican bake....
1 lb hamburger
1 envelope taco seasonig
1 can mexican or reg. corn
corn bread or muffin mix
shredded cheese(taco or cheddar)
Brown beef in taco seasoning
add corn to 8x8 baking dish
pour browned beef over it
then folow package directions on corn muffin mix and spread on top of meat and corn
bake according to directions and for last 10 minutes put cheese on top till melted

YUM!!! :cool1:

Something real simple, hamburgers. But befor making the patties add a packet of Lipton onion soup mix.

I also have a mexican dish. It's always a big hit at parties and I make it often at home.

1 pd ground beef
1 package taco bell seasoning(or whatever taco seasoning you like)
1 can chicken broth
1 can tomato sauce
1 can fiesta corn
2 cups approx. minute rice
Cheddar cheese (however much you like, I like alot!!) :goodvibes

Brown ground beef, stir in taco seasoning, chicken broth, tomato sauce, and fiesta corn. Let simmer for 20 mins. stir in rice, eye ball it and see how much looks good, make sure you dont put in too much because you dont want it to absorb all the sauce. Let that sit for about 5 mins, and then add cheese, wait for that to melt.

VERY easy and yummy!!

I was just about to suggest the same thing, only we add a packet of the powdered ranch dressing mix. SOOOOO GOOOD!!!!!!!!!

Make a pkg. of Uncle Ben's wild rice and add it to the browned hamburger. I take this to pot-lucks a lot. Kids seem to like it.

Stuffed Papayas - serves 6 as listed (adjust as needed)

1 lb. ground beef
3 or 4 cloves of garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons crystallized ginger
1/4 cup mango bbq sauce (or other fruit-flavored bbq sauce)
3 'standard' papayas (not those super-jumbo sized Maridol papayas)

In a frypan, brown the ground beef with the crushed garlic. While that is cooking, split the papayas in half lengthwise, remove the seeds, and place them skin side down in a glass baking dish that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Preheat oven to 375. Mix the mango bbq sauce and crystallized ginger into the beef and garlic and spoon into the centers of the papaya halves. Bake for 15-20 minutes. They are YUMMY!!

It's probably late on this, but here's a twist on the taco dinner, Mexican pizza. Monday night I made this and the family is ready for more.

1 lb. ground beef
1 packet taco seasoning
8 oz. sour cream
1 jar cheese con queso
1 tomato
chopped/shredded lettuce
shredded taco/nacho cheese

Brown 1 lb. ground beef. Add 1 packet of taco seasoning according to package directions.

Warm Boboli pizza shells according to pkg directions. I bought the 2pk 8" crusts that fit in my toaster oven, 8-10 minutes each.

Spread about 1 tbs. sour cream on the warm pizza crust. Spread about 2 tbs of cheese con queso from edge to edge on top of the sour cream. Layer about 1/4 cup of the ground meat, chopped tomato, shredded cheese and lettuce. Feel free to add other taco toppings like mushrooms, green onion or olives as you like. Cut in to fourths, or eighths depending on the crust you have, and serve.

I bought a jar of salsa as well, not sure which way we would like the pizza, salsa or the cheese con queso and tomato. DD tried the salsa with tortilla chips earlier in the day and didn't like it (store brand, southwestern style with corn) so I didn't use it.

After a few bites, I thought this would be tasty with grilled steak instead of the ground beef. I will try it this way the next time I make it.

what about hamburger stroganoff, stuffed peppers or make meatballs & spaghetti.

Some really good suggestions here! thanks so much.

I decided to try the meatloaf with the onion soup mix. I've always wanted to try it but I have one eater who really doesn't like onions so I figured I would spare him. Well, he wasn't home for dinner so I gave it a whirl. It was good but a little to overpowering on the soup mix. Of course that was my fault because I only had a pound and a quarter of meat. After the first few bites though it got better. My DS-16 liked it as well as his friend.
I will try it again with the proper amount of meat.
I will also write down a few of these recipes because they sound very good!

Thanks again!

Aw thanks! But she's not mine - she's my goddaughter! No kids for us yet - but certainly in the future! :thumbsup2

phorsenuf: I'm glad you liked it. I cut the recipe in half all the time and just estimate half the envelope of soup mix. Then I save the other half of the envelope for the next one! We've made the recipe with ground turkey, too! Yum! :)
