future plans are a duramax diesel

I love seeing those old GMC RV's. When I was in high school I worked for an industrial supplier in Pontiac that serviced the plant that built those, several people I know actually worked on the line that built them. They were built at the GM truck plant on South blvd on the South side of Pontiac. They used to make the RTS busses that WDW still uses, in the plant right next to the RV's.
IIRC it was a Toronado/Eldorado 455 with a beefed up transaxle that they used for power.
Thanks for sharing the pics.

I don't have one, but I was a big fan of the Saturday morning show Arc II, which starred a souped up GMC motorhome! I've always liked the looks, and the low profile (much lower to the road than "full-basement" RVs of today). Very cool!

Wow, a Duramax Diesel? That's gonna run you some cash but the thing oughta run forever.

There are a lot of them available from salvage. I have a good friend that works for one of the biggest GM recyclers in the midwest and they always have several. The trick is to make sure you get all of the fuel system parts and the injector pump. Of the 4 series I would stay away from the 2nd gen (LLY, of course its the one I have) due to the heat issues.

A friend of ours bought one a few years ago, the inside and motor and all equipment has been redone, only thing left is to paint the outside, it now looks like a banana. :rotfl2:

I miss the orange shag carpet tho. LOL

Yours looks great.

there is a gmc motorhome dealer in Orlando and Okeechobee that will be able to get one and do the swap I rebuilt that engine but swaping may be to much for me, but this is the plan in 5 years or so

thanks for all the good comments

Would that be the General Motors Truck & Bus Plant?????

Yes it would. IIRC the Rv was built in plant 2 and the RTS in plant 6 but its been a while since I was in there. I can recall seeing the RTS busses on the side of I-75 and M59 / Opdyke rd area during their pre delivery shakedowns. I used to get in the plant for sales calls occasionally, the welding of the RTS frame was quite a sight.

What do you plan to do about the transaxle I think you will need a taller gear then it will accomodate? I have read where some people replaced the Olds with a 500 inch Cadillac with good results.

Looks to me like its sitting on a new chassis. The video says "workhorse/duramax" which to me indicates that its got a workhorse chassis under it now.

I dont know for a fact but I suspect that theres a problem with that transaxle accepting a Duramax engine let alone handling that amount of torque.

Pretty Neat video...love that turbo whine!

I am pretty sure that it is a new chassis. You can see that both the rear and front wheel track is wider that the original.

I'm sorry, I hate to be contrary, but who the heck wants a motorhome you can hear 2 blocks away! I feel self-conscious enough trying to make an early morning getaway as it is. This thing would bring out the lynch mobs! LOL

It wouldnt be any louder than the other diesels all over the fort (mine included)

I hope that was a ragged out peice of crap when they started if not they ruined a nice MH.
Did anyone count how many GMC MHs sitting around in the video.

That's no motorhome, I call shenanigans.... Thats an EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle.
