DH has said many times that he'd like a Foodsaver. I was thinking of getting him one for Christmas (NOT my idea of a good gift, but he'd love it ) but there are so many models on their website, all priced similarly. Does anyone have one of these and, if so, what model do you have & do you like it/use it?

Why did I marry someone who is so hard to shop for?????? :upsidedow

I have one... don't know the model... it is kept in the garage. At first we used it a ton... but that was when we kept in on a shelf in the kitchen. Then my wife moved it to the garage and it hasn't been used even one time since.... that as about 5 years ago, maybe more..

I have one, not sure which model, but I haven't used it in a few years.

It seems like a lot of work to use and it really doesn't seem to work any better than just using a Ziploc bag.

I have one but don't know the model. It sits on my kitchen counter and I use it every day.

If your DH gets one, there is aYahoo group devoted to the Foodsaver. I got lots of ideas and hints from the site.

See, IMO, that is the deciding factor.

I used to have one, but it was too time consuming and took up counter space I needed for other items.. I sold mine in a garage sale..

If he really wants it though - and he's hard to shop for - why not go ahead and get it? :santa:

We had one that we liked for 4 years and then it broke. We recently replaced it with the Oliso Frisper which we like even better. it is easier to use and the bags are dishwasher safe so you can use them over and over again! It's a lot smaller too.

I asked for one for Christmas. The things I wanted were: a stand on the side version to take up less space, and a food saver that will seal bags such as chips, crackers, and such, and the color.

I don't know what model it is, but I know I'll use it. I have friends that have showed me theirs and I'm looking forward to one now. :)

We use ours alot, it sits on my counter. Flips up as not to take up much room.
I dont use it to do chips, cookies etc.. I dont buy alot of junk. My sil does however and she uses it all the time for that.
My hubby hunts and fishes, which is why my inlaws bought it for us. You should have seen my face when we opened it last year.. I was like WTH??!! :rotfl::rotfl: I was really annoyed, because I hate kitchen gadgets and they know it . BUT now I am so pleased with it. NO more freezer burn.
I buy meat in bulk if I find a really good sale. I also have a garden and I will freeze veggies.

We have the V2830 model. No idea why she choose it but she also has the same one.

You will have to excuse me now, I am off to freeze three ten lb bags if chicken that I got on sale yesterday.

I'd get one that stands up on it's side and is a space saver model as well. That's what I want. I have an older model and while I use it once in a while and for "special" products, I just toss ground beef and stuff in a ziplock because we use it quickly enough.

Keeping it out for use on the counter is KEY. I asked for a kitchen aid mixer for XMas but made sure I have room for it to live on my counter, I wouldn't drag that thing out to use every time but I will for sure use it daily if it's on the counter top.

Just so you know, you can put Foodsaver bags in the dishwasher also if you are so inclined. I have had 2, both older, so I am not sure what models they were. I really should use it more, because it does work great!!!

Love mine I have one of the low ends models. what I love the best is I thaw in cold water alot so it is great for doing that. And we buy large filets & pork tenderloins & cut them in to steaks.

DH convinced me to get a Foodsaver years ago when it was only "as seen on TV". It is now a necessity in my kitchen. I have a smaller model on my counter. (http://www.amazon.com/FoodSaver-T00...1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1260386344&sr=8-1) It has the ability to seal without using the vacuum motor plus seal cannisters as well as bags. We just bought it when the eight-year-old one in FL bit the dust a week ago. It's working great!

We cook food in bulk and freeze it in meal-sized portions. We also buy the giant size packages of hamburger, chicken, and such and freeze it uncooked. No more freezer burn and wasted food is almost zero! I couldn't live without it.

ETA: I also do a lot of defrosting in cold water and there are no surprising "leaks" in the bags. They work great.

I just got my Kitchen aid last week. I also made sure I had room for it, That bad boy is HEAVY! I would never drag it out.
I have used it once, bought the stuff to make bread, but havent dont it yet. LOL I am scared of it ; ). I can cook anything , but when it comes to baking I am a screw up .

You can now get ziplock bags with a hand pump.

We have a V2840 and we get a lot of use out of it. Doesn't even compare to a Ziploc bag. We buy whole tenderloins and ribeyes on sale, cut them up, put them in the deep freeze and they will be good for years.

You can freeze soup stock, chili, spaghetti sauce, dried herbs, anything. Since we only cook for two we can buy large economical quantities of meat and not worry about freezer burn in a Ziploc.

My husband wanted one for Christmas one year too. He had grand plans to make lots of beef jerky...I believe his exact words were "If I had a food saver I could make lots of beef jerky and keep it sealed up." I believe he used it once and we haven't had jerky since! I don't know where that food saver went to either.
