Anyone Have a Fear of Flying Especially This Week?

As I was reading this there is a news break about USAir from Ireland to Philadelphia, that had a bomb threat. So yes, I do worry. We are flying in Nov and it been on my mind for months, as we get closer it bothers me more. Then Bam! today this and I fly out of Philly, so now I will worry more.

I think about it, I worry about it, but I cling to hope all will be fine. I must believe we will be fine because I keep booking flights.

I see you left or will leave today. I hope your relaxed and enjoyed your flight. Have a Great Trip!

We are actually flying on 9/11. It's the only time we could go.

Did you know SW charges an additional 10$ 9/11 security fee if you fly that day. It's itemized on my bill!

As for me, I'm not going to worry about it. The likelihood my particular plane will be targeted is small. I bet I have greater odds of getting in an accident driving to the airport that morning.

However, in the end you have to decide what you are comfortable with. There's nothing wrong with being concerned or even cancelling if that is what you feel you need to do. It's not a choice I would make, but I wouldn't think you were irrational if you made it. Everyone has their own comfort level and it's not for me to judge.

I could be wrong, but I think the 9/11 security fee is always part of every ticket, every day of the year. I don't think it's just charged on 9/11.

Sorry about that. I though because I was flying on 9/11 it was special for me!!!!

Then again I can tend to think the world revolves around me so it's typical for me to think things like that!

I have one word for all of you afraid to fly. Xanax. It's our friend.

I need a friend like this for my November flight! :cool1: I have never taken anything like that. What does it do for you...how does it make you feel?

It makes you not care. I usually take .5mg when we leave form the airport and the 1.5mg about 30 min before I get on the plane. It takes away the anxiety of being smashed in a tube up in the air. I was given 5mg one time in the ER for a panic attack and it was like I was drunk and no way could I drive. Ask your doctor and try some dosages before you fly or drive. Medication affects everyone differently and you don't want to over medicate.

Oh yes, definitely ask your doctor about dosages! That much would make me sleep for two days! Lol. My dosage is .25 mg. sometimes I even break that in half! Lol
But, it certainly takes the edge off if you suffer from anxiety.

Thanks! I have a feeling it won't take much for me. I can take just a sliver of an Ambien tablet and sleep great all night.

Chance of being killed in a plane crash = 1 in 11 million
Chance of being killed in a car crash = 1 in 5,000

Statistically you are much safer in a plane than in your own car.

FWIW, we were on (a non-Disney) vacation this week, and we flew home yesterday. I had no clue there were any threats or any increased security since we were on vacation and didn't turn on the news all week, and I didn't notice anything different at the airport, either. Well, when we made our connecting flight in Newark, they announced that TSA agents would be asking for everyone's ID before being allowed on the jet bridge. The TSA agents ended up waving us through without showing ID, I assume because we were flying with our kids. Other than that, I noticed no special security yesterday. In fact, security seemed to be decreased to us at Logan airport in Boston--I'm going to make a post about that now.
