It looks like I am getting one! I need a higher end one because of the type of hearing loss I have. Just looking for any info on hearing aids, especially digital ones.

I hear my son crying now! :)

My nephew has one. I don't know how well it works, if you have some specific questions I can ask my sister.

He has certain tones that he couldnt' hear so that is why they decided on it.

I don't know anyone who has any kind of hearing aid, so anything you can find out would be helpful. The tones I can't hear well are in the speech area, so while I can hear words & sounds, I can't always make sense of them. It's very frustrating!

They gave me a brochure from Widex.

She's not home right now. I remember her talking about it and she was looking for someone who had them too. They were looking at some other options but I'm not sure what the final choice was. His hearing loss is also probably spoken words because they were most concerned about school.

It's hard with speech. The older hearing aids just make everything louder, which can be a problem if you're only missing part of the range. For me, it's a really big problem because I am also sensitive to loud noises. Go figure :) I'm just glad there is something newer available.

I am an audiologist and I fit people with hearing aids. I agree the digital ones are a much better option for some people but they can be pretty expensive. Several companies have just come out with some new really good products. You can email me if you have any specific questions or if you want some input on the price you've been quoted. My email is lmj89@cox.net.

Talked with my sister. She said it seems to work fine, my nephew will only wear it at school because she insists that he does. His hearing loss was a side effect of chemotherapy so he has only had to wear it about a year. She said there are certain sounds that he doesn't hear without it. Background noise does make it a little harder to hear with it also.

The audiologist recommended it, she did say they are very expensive and the insurance would not cover it. They don't cover audiologist visits either. Hopefully you will be able to cover at least part of the costs.

Thanks Janette & everyone! It's reassuring to know that this type might actually work!

lmj, I sent you an email :)

my mom has one, she likes it alot better then her old one but because here hearing is so bad the doctors say it dont work for her as good as it should

Tim, thanks for the links! I'll check them out.

Jason, I'm glad your mom is at least somewhat helped by it. :)

I'm starting to warm up to the idea. It doesn't make me feel old anymore, especially knowing there are school kids with hearing loss. I'll be the most high tech mom at playgroup, LOL!
