Anyone have a DD with a long-torso?

I'm having major bathing suit issues for my DD. She has a really long torso. I have a long torso and buy my bathing suits at Lands End but they don't have long torso for kiddos. I keep going up a size but they are looking crazy. I got her a size 10 and it's baggy but just barely covers her rear end ;)

Any suggestions????

My DD has a very long torso, and I finally gave up on one-piece suits. We have had luck with speedo tankinis. They had some with long tops that came down to cover her entire stomach.

I finally went the 2-piece route. I get Land's End so I can get different sizes on the top and bottom.

I go the two piece route as well. I haven't yet found a long waisted size in girls. Mine has narrow feet so I hard time finding shoes to stay on her feet too! Good luck!

Count me in as another one who has given up on 1 piece suits for DD7. She is fair skinned so I get her a bikini and a swim shirt. Found a swim shirt at the Children's Place that she loved, hot pink with a peace sign. Got her a size 8 in the bikini (so it covers her bottom) and a 10/12 in the shirt so it fits her longer torso.

I just remembered I was able to find my DD a one piece bathing suit. It was a Speedo brand. It is really nice. It is sporty looking and is very long. It also has a cool design on it.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone! So my DD has a little bit of a belly depending where she is in a growth spurt process :rolleyes1 Right now...belly is kinda gone but you never know when it would come back. Do you just get a bigger top size to make it a bit longer????

My girls also have longer torsos - overalls never worked on them :( when they were little - which was sad!

I also have a long torso but thankfully women's suits offer that. Do they not realize that those of us with long torsos had them as children too??? They don't magically appear!! lol

My girls are not "skinny-minnies" ... they are solid and the bellies come and go depending on growth spurt time or not. They like the two piece tugless tank from Lands End. It has a longer top and it covers their belly. My one daughter wears a plus size and one a regular as one needs a little more coverage than the other :) Thankfully their suits are the same patterns whether regular or plus.

Good luck :)

Kerri

p.s You can also buy separates at Lands End which is nice too ... especially in the overstocks section. As well they are 25% off right now (maybe until today??) and free shipping!

Thanks Kerri...that sounds like a good option. I really like the longer top ones for her.

I didn't get free shipping (that ended yesterday apparently) but I did get the 25% off. It was good until midnight so I just made it ;) And I may have ordered something for myself :rolleyes1

Glad you found something Kristine. I don't usually get different sizes for top and bottom because she is pretty much skinny everywhere.

Yup, another vote for a tankini here. That way you can feel comfortable with the suit coverage and it should fit your DD's body type. I'm not there yet with DD, but will be in the near future!

I have a long torso & there is no way I can wear a one piece swim suit.

One piece suits don't work for my DD either. As long as I can find a 2 piece that ftis and is not triangles and dental floss for a top I am happy!!! Seriously, I am not picky about her showing her belly, but I HATE those little triangle tops for little girls. They never stay where they are supposed to, and always seem to gap on her, not to mention I would prefer just a pit more coverage than that. We have had good luck at Gap. She seems to do best with the tops that tie around the neck, because we can adjust the strap length to make sure it hits in the right place. Justice had some really cute ones this year, but my dd has a muscular lower body from dance, and the bottoms just didn't work on her. Finding Dance leos that fit her is really hard as well. Bloch is just about the only brand that works. Pretty soon we will likely have to start going the camisole top, shorts, and tights route I fear. Several girls in our studio who are a few years older than DD do this because they can never get leos that fit right!

If you want a one piece...look into Lands End. That's where I buy ALL of my suimsuits. They are pricey but last REALLY well and they long torso suits in almost every style

Uggh we have the same problem there too! DD also wears Bloch leos. That is a whole other nightmare. Even with the Bloch...she has to wear a size big. Costumes for recital...same issue. I had to re-sew half her costume last year to make it fit right. They order her a 14 to make it fit her length!!! SERIOUSLY. ...she was 5! :scared1: I ended up trading with another mom whose daughter's costume was too small but even with a 12 I had to do a lot of work to make it wearable. :headache:

so far we have been lucky the last 3 years. Most of her costumes have adjustable camisole straps so we can get the size that fits around and get a little extra room by letting the straps out. This year's Jazz is a unitard. I am waiting for it to come in to see how much of a rebuild I am going to need to do.
