 I was hopeing to get upgraded, b/c our room is on deck one!! I went with a Cat. 10 stateroom and the only ones available were on deck one. I am kinda nervous that I wont like it. That is a long way down from the pools and buffets. I usually stay on deck 6 or 7 and use the stairs, since the elevators can take some time. If anyone here has had a room down there, can you please reasure me that it'll be ok??! Were not going to be hearing men singing all night while there shoveling coal into the boilers are we?? ;)

Dennis....have no fear!! We have stayed on both Decks 1 and 2 (as well as decks 5,6,7,8....so all passenger decks and our times on 1 were wonderful!!! The area is very quiet and a breeze for getting on/off the ship while in ports...no cramming in elevators after a hot day of excursions!!!

You are just a few steps away from most of the ship's activities (except for the pool and buffet like you mentioned). You are close to shops, shows, guest service, dining rooms, pictures, shore excursions, character autographs sessions, clubs, movie theatre, etc. As you know all these things happen on decks 3,4,5....you really are in a fine location and all hallways look the same. There is no "steerage deck"....all decks on DCL are wonderful!!!

We had a room on Deck 1 in October. The only inconvenience we encountered, other than the slow elevators, was that crew were constantly coming and going from their areas down there, so lots of traffic in the hallways - not noisy or anything, just crowded.

It was very convenient to get to the lobby, gift shops, Walt Disney Theater, etc. When we wanted to get to Deck 9, we would walk up to Deck 2, then go all the way back to the aft elevators, which are not that busy, to get to Topsiders, Mickey pool, etc. Or you can go all the way forward on Deck 1 to get the forward elevators.

We didn't have any problems with Deck 1.

I really enjoyed being on deck one, I found it to be very quiet down there, also.... it was neat being that close to the water, and I have heard you don't feel the motion as much on lower decks. It was also super easy to disembark at ports, and to get up to the activities on deck 3.

Another good thing is there are only staterooms above you, so you don't have to worry about the noises of the dance clubs, or other venues above you.

On our Nov 4th cruise we stayed on deck 1, room 1072. The room itself was wonderful however there was a loud noise that sounded like the hydrolics of the ship directly below us that would occur randomly, especially noticable during the night. I did mention this to guest services in the morning as we did not sleep very well, however they were unable to determine what the noise was and provided us with ear plugs. It could be heard while we were at sea and docked.

:cool1: Well thanks so much for the positive comments guys. I am feeling much better about it now!! Hopefully everything will go nice and smooth next week. I'll be sure to let you all know how it went!!!

Better to be on Deck 1 than standing on the shore as the ship pulls away! Enjoy!!

We loved Deck 1. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

I enjoyed the extra crew interaction, and thanked my lucky stars when we re-boarded after being in port all day.

Have a great time.

We had the same experience in 1067. I thought the noise was the stabilizers...until I heard it while we were in port! I totally forgot that I had brought ear plugs but honestly needed those more for the loud child in the room that ajoined ours. I think that the family in there never heard us so didn't realize that we could hear them!! This is what I tell myself as I find it hard to believe that people would be that loud if they knew others could hear them.
