Anyone Got Any Sunwheel/ Mickeys Funwheel Update?

When I saw the pics from Blue Sky Cellar on the *other site*, I really liked what I saw.

It is a giant Mickey head, but it came across as tasteful to me. It blends in well witht the rest of the theme on the pier.

When's the pier and wheel scheduled to be completed again? I'd love to see it when we go 12/2009.

Yep, Katie.

They are changing the whole look to the 20's/30's Hollywood, with the Carthay Circle Theater as the new weanie. Think the Sunset Blvd area of DHS in WDW.

Also, the C A L I F O R N I A will be replaced by entry gates that look exactly like DHS in WDW.

BLEH!!!!!

I think if the imagineers would have done a kick butt Disney job the first time we wouldn't have to go through 2 to 3 years of DCA do over. I honestly love DCA the way it is (I like it better NOW than when it first opened) and there are some changes I am looking forward to (Little Mermaid Ride and that show they're going to have in the lagoon) but I don't like how they're copying off DHS. DLR and WDW share a lot of things now and I think they could have came up with different 20's /30's style entrance gates without copying WDW.

So in summary I'm looking forward to the changes even though I do love DCA the way it is. But I wish that the imagineers would have came up with this BEFORE instead of overhauling the whole place now.

Okay, off my soapbox.

I agree that the Mickey head looks pretty good but i'm sad they're taking down the Mickey head on CS. I'm assuming they don't want 2 giant Mickey heads competing with each other visually so i can see why they're taking it down but it's still sad. :sad1:

The CALIFORNIA has to go because they are bumping out the front of the park to that level.

It will have more of a "Main Street" style entry - with more buildings lining the street - and since they don't have enough room to make a proper street, they have to expand the park in the only direction they can - out into the plaza.

I think they could have been more imaginative than to copy the turnstile blueprints from the Studios..... I hate the thought that some of the areas will be too much like that park's. Don't get me wrong - love the Studios, but still. We don't copy WDW here....

That means all of the beautiful and expensive mosaics are gone, too. I think it will be nice, but it will be hectic for a couple years.

You think all this is controversial - you should see the WDW catfight over closing Space Mountain down for a long period and doing a major refurb there - sort of like what they did for us here in DL....

There fighting over making a ride better? They dont got backbones like The CALI-LOVERS do :rotfl:  :rotfl2: :happytv:

For people who go to WDW - it's a different mindset. They aren't "locals".

For us, we got all the time. If something's shut down - no prob - we'll catch it on the next visit. At WDW, if a major attraction is down, vacationers don't feel they can get their money's worth - that "once in a lifetime" vacation/tourist mindset.
