Anyone going in August?

Was just curious how the world is in the beginning of Aug. We always go the beg. of June but due to another vacation, the beginning of Aug. would be our time frame. How are the crowds? Also the weather? I'm sure it would be sweltering. I guess I'm just wondering how much of a difference there will be. Thanks, Tink

P.S. Will we still get those daily afternoon rain showers?

Hi,

Early August is busier than early June.

The main difference between June and August weather-wise is that August is more relentlessly humid. When you wake up in the morning it's already well into the 70s and quite muggy. And yes, the afternoon storms are usually around almost every day.

But as you can see from my signature, we love going in August! It will be less busy after the 14th but the weather will be the same as earlier in the month.

I'm going in August, that's when we always go.
Yep, there are the daily showers usually around 4pm.
I find the heat quite unbearable but this is the only time of the year we can go.
Just make sure you drink litres of water everyday, take some time to cool off in the pool and spend a lot of time in the air conditioning. An afternoon nap around 3pm when it's at its hottest is a good idea

We are going in Aug 12-20th "137 days to go"
First time at WDW for Us as a Family ...
Everyone says .. Soooo Hot and Sticky... but we are planning on taking breaks at the hotel in the middle of the afternoon... Only other time we could go was in Sept. Didnt really want to take the kids out of school and I dont think from everything I have read that the weather is that much different...

Yes. We are going the last two weeks in August.

August is hot and humid. Well, at least it was when we were there at the tail end of August/2004. I was so incredibly hot and sweaty.......yuck! I said I never wanted to go back at that time of year again. What do they say about never saying never??

We're going 8/4 - 8/11. We're from Louisiana so we know all about hot and humid! We will all have our own water bottles!

We are going Aug. 14-21. Our last trip was Aug. 2004 and it was very hot and humid but there wasn't a lot of people there. I guess because many schools in the south reopen in August.
Despite the heat, we had a great time and we just take an afternoon break at the pool every day when it gets too hot.

We have been going to WDW nearly every August for the past 11 years. Yes, it is hot & humid, and it typically rains in the late afternoon. However, there have been some trips where we did not get much rain at all! The crowds do start to get smaller towards mid-to -late August, since all of the schools down South are back in session then.

We'll be there the 12th-17th this year! Oldest dd wanted to go for her 16th birthday (Aug. 2nd) but didn't want to be there on her birthday. So, we picked another week. I'm sure it will be hot and humid, but we plan to get to the parks before opening and take an afternoon break if necessary.

August 3-12 for us! That was the only week DH could get vacation that DS was out of school, so there you have it!

We are planning to go back to the hotel midday every day (and that was a really good excuse to book a deluxe!), carry our Brita bottles, and not try to commando through everything. That will be hard for me, but I bet the heat will slow me down! We are also bringing some of those mini fans.

Right now the UG website has the first week of August as having the highest crowds out of the entire year other than Easter and Christmas. I am still wondering HOW that happened. Why is MY week the highest crowd level? We will definitely have to tweak our planning methods next year. Hot, humid, and the highest crowds of the summer doesn't sound like a recipe for the best vacation ever!

We are planning on the 13th through 22nd this year. We were there middle of July last year so the crowds levels should be better.

It is pretty hot then but you can get those neckerchiefs that you soak in ice water and wear around your neck to cool off. They really work. I bought one @ WDW in 2003 for about $8 and found them at Walmart in 2004 for about $3.
