Anyone going Geocaching this weekend? **NEW CACHERS...POP IN!**

The easy part of this is done...have a medium sized ammo can just about ready to place SOMEWHERE! But where? And where are the geocacing stickers I bought? Sure don't want it muggled. I've come across a few out there. Some right out in the open and others hidden TOO well. Think they will like this one. Things to use for geocaching, and goodies for the kids.

Where oh where should I put this? The tough part begins.

P.S. We were back at Williamsburg yesterday for caching...just found one. Ugh. A grand total of 3 for the day. Last weekend was better with 17! Any way, the foliage at WB is just BEAUTIFUL!! It really kicked in this past week!

Have you found a spot to hide that cache yet? That's our problem, too. We have so many cachers in our area that most parks are already taken! It makes for great caching but it does get difficult to find a good spot to hide one.
We're still waiting on the new 210. I almost cancelled our order on Friday with thoughts of getting something else but decided to hold off and give it another week or two. I hear they are in a few stores now so maybe Magellan will get them shipped out in time for Thanksgiving shopping.
We will probably do a couple caches today with our old 310. We are going to be visiting our daughter and her husband in Allentown for lunch so we might do a cache or two up that way.
I know I'm looking forward to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays for some time off work and a chance to do some caches! Hopefully, that new Magellan will arrive before then.

No, I haven't found the right place yet. One person said call his wife, she has ideas. They have caches out all over the place! I can't imagine maintaining them all. I should call her this week.

We had a good day yesterday. Headed to Virginia Beach and found 10. Yea! Last weekend it was a total of 3 for the weekend. LOLOL! Wish every day were a 10 day. We should have found the 11th. Someone I'm sure put their cache in the cap of a reflector sign pole. Found the place with 6 of them. Only two caps would lift off, nothing of course. There were two others that looked like someone had opened them but didn't replace them correctly. The bottom of the edge of the cap is over the top of the sign. I couldn't open them, and neither could my 12 year old...who is already taller than me! One we did find was a Coca-Cola can! LOL! These people can be very clever. Their hint was...Do we have you seeing red yet? Interestingly enough, there was a piece of red fabric on the ground on the opposite side of the tree. You have to wonder if they make these or buy them! I haven't seen a can like this before. There were two screws in where the tab is, but you had to twist off the edge of the top to get it. I had sent darling son for a screw driver from the car...which I didn't have any way. Good thing I kept reading the description which said twist off, no tools required.

I see we're getting a late start today.

Sorry your new GPS is taking so long! But I'm sure you will be very happy with it and be glad you waited. That should be fun to go caching in your daughter's area. Days off at the holidays will be good for you! I'm not expecting too many this year myself being I just started with this company in February. I'm the new kid on the block. But I will be off the day after Thanksgiving...so far. Yea! Have plans with a friend part of the day, but the later half will be caching! And I'm sure Thanksgiving will be spent the same way. Ugh...just can't get used to the holidays as a single parent even though it's been years now. Much easier to plan a good diversion than deal with those days!

The saga of the Magellan eXplorist 210 continues. Tiger GPS still hasn't received their first shipment and no other store on the Internet is showing them in stock. I am really frustrated. I let Tiger know that I will be cancelling my order if they do not get a firm shipping date from Magellan of Nov 25 or earlier. This is really getting ridiculous. I don't fault Tiger GPS at all; for some reason, Magellan is not able to ship these units. I think they must be having a problem with them. Anyway, I should hear back from Tiger today. If they still have no word, I will be ordering a Garmin GPS 60 instead. I found one for $144 and free shipping.
We did not get a chance to do any caches in Allentown this past Sunday. We had to eat and run, pretty much, because we had a slight dog problem to deal with. So, we haven't been out for a few weeks. We should be getting out over Thanksgiving (5 days off) if not tomorrow.
Have fun caching if you get out this weekend! I hope you find a place to hide your cache soon!

Found 11 this weekend, five yesterday, six today. There's something I'm not getting here. LOL! You really wonder about those that find 18 in a day! I will have to read about downloading waypoints I think. Hmmmmmmmm...will have to order the cord to hook up to the computer for that. I'm looking forward to 4 days off later this week. Yahoo! Will be caching for the most part.

I'm STILL driving around with this ammo can in my car to place. Haven't found the right place yet. Enjoy your time off!

Well, my DW and I discussed it and we decided to wait for the Magellan 210 a little longer. She really likes the weight aspect (only 4 oz compared to almost 8 for the GPS 60) and I like the amount of memory it has for maps, etc. Tiger GPS is being told "any day now" by Magellan. We'll see.
Way to go finding 11 in two days! I think our best day was around 12 but we cached pretty much the whole day. We were beat by the end of that one. I have 5 days off, beginning this afternoon, and I'm sure we'll see if the old Magellan is working well enough for us to get out there Friday and/or Saturday. It's supposed to get pretty cold up here, though, and the DW hates that so we'll have to wait and see. They're calling for temps in the teens Friday and Saturday nights with highs in the 30's. Not as bad as some of the nights we spent in the woods during our SAR careers but still pretty chilly for this time of year.
I'm also looking forward to being able to download waypoints. The software that comes with the 210 looks pretty interesting for that. Entering them by hand gets pretty old when you're doing more than a few.

Here's the latest on our Magellan eXplorist 210 adventure. Today, the GPS Store listed the 210 as being "in stock". I called to verify and was told they received hundreds of them today. Tiger GPS still does not know when they will be getting them, if ever, so I cancelled my order with them and ordered one from The GPS Store. With their 2 night shipping special, we could have it for the weekend! It has been 5 1/2 weeks since I first placed my order with Tiger GPS and, other than The GPS Store and supposedly REI, no one seems to have this model in stock yet. I'm anxious to try it out!

Oh, those temperatures sound too awful. I'm freezing here in VA with temps a lot warmer than that. Maybe I still have Floridian blood flowing through my veins. LOL!

I thought of you the other night on my way home from work. I was at a stop light, and the car in front of me had this on its license plate... AF SAR. To me AF is Air Force, but they could be someone's initials also. And SAR I associate with you for Search and Rescue!

I think I'll have to come up with a cache or two to contribute to one of the Navy guys here. He was checking on upcoming geocaching events and found that people deployed in Iraq are having one December 24 I believe. So he posted something on our Yahoo board asking if anyone is interested in contributing caches and TBs. SURE!!! I'll have to think about that tonight and come up with something. They certainly need to have some fun and relaxation over there! I know I have quite a good selection here since I recently made up the ammo can. I'll have to find a container and put a couple caches together for them.

Hello Yahoo Group!

I would like to take a minute of your time to share with you a project I am working on for Geocachers currently deployed in Iraq.

I was looking at cache events to attend over the next couple months, since we will be traveling, and I came across an event taking place in Iraq on Dec.24th. I got nosey and poked around and found out this cache is being done by a SSgt. in the USAF.I contacted him and we have since been corresponding. I have looked at his profile as well as some of the others that are attending and found that some of them have cached right here in Hampton Roads.

I shared an idea with SSgt. Campbell and he loved it. I then went to Beach Teacher with the same idea. So, we are now going to be sending a box from the kids at CLMS filled with who knows what.

I would like to extend this to the group. I will be getting together a box to be sent out on the 30th of Nov. for them to have for their cache event. If you would like to contribute to this box please contact us at ___. I figured we are such a creative group that we could come up with a few good ideas. Maybe you have a TB you would like to send, a small micro/urban cache you would like to offer for a raffle. They are limited on what they have over there and I thought maybe we could help make their event a memorable one.

Additional ideas: Send a TB tag with a note asking that they attach an item and send it back. Create a micro and tell them to place it in their hometown when they return and to contact you where it has been placed. Send a card and say Thank You for all that you do for us at home. Ideas are endless…

I will make arrangements to pick up from both sides of the water. Maybe I can get a volunteer for a central drop off place on the other side of the water for your convenience.

Eight caches today! Yea! Should have been nine, but we had to give up on the last one due to the sun setting fast and we needed to get out of the park. Will save that one for another day.

It was a great day caching! No traffic, stores closed, etc. Definitely a good way to spend the day.

The 210 arrived today as scheduled! I've been fooling around with it and have already downloaded around 50 cache waypoints so we're ready to go.
Also, I mailed a packet to Chuck on Saturday and received an email today that it already reached him. What a great idea!

Wooooooo hooooooooooo!!! Congrats on getting your eXplorist! Downloading waypoints...now that's something I need to read up on. But I did get a new toy today! A digital camera! This is going to be great for caching pics, especially locationless while we're running out of time. Will be reading that instruction manual.

Your package got to Chuck in no time! That was fast! Dropped my things off at their house on my lunch hour today. Too funny...I had printed directions to their home but forgot to write the actual address. Good thing I remembered somewhat how it looked. LOL! Knew I was in the right place by two things. One being the cache on their property, the other being a sign hanging on their front door...Gone caching! LOLOL! It's definitely a wonderful thing they're doing.

Downloading waypoints is easy and is really the way to go if your GPSr is capable. I put more than 50 in ours in a minute or two! It sure beats entering them one-by-one by hand.
Have fun with your camera! We use ours pretty often while caching and have quite a few photos on the site (and here on The DIS). You can check out our geocaching pics by searching for "Team SAR-Dogs" cache finds.
We hope to get out this weekend with the new Magellan. I'll let you know how we make out. Have fun caching!

I'll have to hunt for the manual for my GPS. Amazing how things disappear.

I'll check those pictures. Love to see all of them. There are some amazing ones on that site. If I ever get out to the Blue Ridge Mountains again, I'd love to search for caches there! Today I printed a bunch for a local park. Seems I'm always going to places that are a drive from here but have hardly searched for those near home. Will have to hit this park this weekend.

There's a new cache online today that's near my office. Rats! Couldn't find it. I e-mailed the person and got a hint, so hopefully on tomorrow's lunch hour I'll find it. Cross the fingers.

Oh, you will be out all over the place looking for things. It's actually helped me drop 15 pounds fairly recently due to the hikes. Spent the good part of today hiking through a large park and found 8 caches. YEA!!!
