Hello there fellow Disney lovers, I thought I would post this thread regarding going overboard on souvenirs. I have found that on every trip we go on I have bought way more than planned. :bitelip: and some items are still with tags I think this is an addiction with no solution.
Anyone else have a similar addiction?

I am guilty of this! I was just packing yeterday for our trip and found a keychain I bought myself form our trip last summer! I just love everything I see and have to have it all!!:rotfl:Everything is so cute there! I always buy at least one ornament one article of clothing and something soft ( a blanket stuff animal ect)! Dont worry your not alone!!

Glad to know that I'm not alone  because whenever we go on our trips, I always go overboard buying photo albums, keychains, clothes, postcards and much more!! :dance3:

What, everyone doesn't do this? :confused3

We always make sure we pack/plan on having an empty suitcase for the way home to bring all our loot in.

Then there was the trip in '07 where we shipped stuff home. Twice. And still brought home a suitcase full. And odds & ends were crammed in every corner of every other suitcase!

Modus operendi for us!

Not guilty! :snooty:

I'm a pretty critical shopper when I'm at home and it doesn't change when I'm at Disney. I always ask myself, "How will I get this home?", "Where will I keep it when I get home?", "How often will I use this once it gets home?", "Can I get this same thing at home for less?" and "How happy will this purchase make me a month from now?"

I admit to blowing the budget on some Italian perfume (not cologne, not eau de toilette) on my last visit. However, I loved the scent immediately, it fit into my checked bag without a problem and I wear it almost daily. That's more than I can say for the Pirates of the Caribbean Mickey Mouse water globe that my daughter purchased a few trips back. We had to ship it home, it sits collecting dust and she didn't feel strongly enough about it to take it with her when she moved into her new apartment last week.

I went overboard on our first trip to Disney with the kids. But once we got the loot home the luster from our souvenirs wore off pretty quickly and we realized that very little of what we bought had any long-lasting meaning for us or was really worth what we had spent. I try to plan now--one tee shirt per kid, because they do wear them, and maybe one or two mementos, usually a Christmas tree ornament. I let the kids spend their allowance on anything else, which makes them thrifty shoppers.

I used to but i have found that if I plan before we lave and say I would like a new ???? and focus on that only Im not to bad! BUT I go overboard with pictures lol and if we ride a new ride for first time we alway get that photo when available and a pin too! But i hang them up for display!! lol

my dd whos 13 she is another entire story! wants everything!!!!! lol

I don't know that I go overboard, but I do buy quite a bit. I love Disney stuff, and I wear it all the time, and like the decorative stuff too!

I need to apply this!!! I am guilty of buying too many souveniers:blush: Some I use frequently and some are stored for the annual garage sale within weeks of purchase. This trip I am applying Marionnette questions and limiting myself to two items that will have longevity and absolutely no clothing items.

Try making a list of things you like and where you see it and then you can try to weed out impulse buying verses things you would use.

We used to have this problem. On our honeymoon we bought so much stuff, for ourselves and for almost everyone in our family. Now we just send a postcard to family while on vacation and we take a million pictures. We might buy 1 thing for DS. We have too much stuff (junk) as it is, I don't want to bring more into my house just to remind me of my vacation.

I will buy practical things, coffee mugs, a magnet for the fridge, clothing.

But this trip I went a little crazy. I was in World of Disney and bought the Castle figurine (similar to the Beauty and the Beast, Lady and the tramp).

Also, when visiting the Boardwalk, went into the gallery and ended up buying a painting - couldn't resist!! :cool1:

I don't think we go overboard on the amount of stuff we buy, although I do tend to go the high-end route... (I love watching the glass blowing demonstrations, and have bought stuff from them twice.)

I never go above my budgeted amount, though. (FWIW, my budgeted amount is pretty high for a family of 3)

At Disney I always buy one ornament, and something small to put in the scrapbook, like a bookmark. I collect all the free stuff (napkins, placemats, schedules, brochures) and I put those in the scrapbooks. I only buy things for specific purposes. I'm not big on collections in particular. (I don't even collect scrapbooking supplies, just buy what I need.)

Honestly, I don't think there has ever been something I have bought (at Disney or other places) that I forgot about.

I certainly have many other addictions (fried foods yum!), but shopping is not one of them.

I am very guilty, but I use all my souvenirs. I bought some Disney notepads back in 2010 and I use them everyday. I will stock up again when we go back next year.

Nope. I always feel like I could have let the kids get more or could have gotten something more for myself. We always seem to have money left over from our trips.

Every October is our annual mother and daughter trip (we leave the men at home and bring them in November for Thanksgiving) When we are together we are shopaholics! We tried the "how will I get it home" but we ship everything we buy. We buy yearly ornaments and we usually do MNSSHP and MVMCP so we get a shirt or two from them. My mother is addicted to those magic hand towels (she brought 50 of them last year!!) and I spend a lot on pins(more than I care to even admit) always looking for the AP pins or party pins and I also buy these little wooden Japanese dolls from WS Japan that you hang in your car even though I have one in each car, I buy more than I truly need but I try to justify this by giving them as gifts when anyone buys a new car (it has a Japanese travel safe prayer on them)

I actually hate the fact that I dont feel like I buy enough - I love Disney - and wish I had more Disney showing in my home - My fave is our Mickey Throw & the Mickey Martini glasses we bought!

We curb the expense two ways:

By the 2nd day in our trip we hit character outlet and see what they have for shirts toys etc.

we have each of our kids save $$ all year, collecting soda cans etc and upload their $$ to disney gift card for them to spend on what ever they want.

We will buy each kid a t shirt and 1 special pin.

These two things alone save me $$ and no melt downs!:)

Well, our trip in 2004, we brought home a VERY expensive souvenir - she's 7 now. :rotfl:

Our last trip (March 2011) - it had been seven years since we'd been to WDW. It was our (then) DD6 and DS9mos's first trips, and DS8 hadn't been there since he was 15 months old - so, in essence, his first trip as well. We kinda went crazy - for us, anyway. I don't spend money at home all that much. DH bought nothing - to balance out the rest of us crazies. :thumbsup2 I came home with a key chain, two ornaments and a sweatshirt and matching fabric tote/purse. That is a LOT for me. Kids each got $70 to spend ($10/day) - well, the older two, the baby didn't care much. :lovestruc I really can't remember all that they bought, other than the build-a-lightsaber and a few pins, and my DD bought some fun jewelry.

My favorite souvenir was this: http://www.disneystore.com/ornament...ey-mouse-ear-hat-ornament/mp/1293535/1000344/ and also a princess pink version of it, for $6 each. Instead of hanging them on my tree, they hang on a ribbon from my rear view mirror, and I enjoy them every single day. The rest was a waste.

This trip in February is going to be UBER budget. With that in mind, I am going to start this tradition: http://pinterest.com/pin/236720524133761029/ I am planning on making these for every vacation from here on out. When I buy a souvenir, it will be with the intention of adding it to the jar. I plan to get sand from the Poly, when we go for dinner and to watch the fireworks. Then, every day, I plan to buy a postcard from whichever park we are in, and write down all the fun things we did that day. I am going to mail them to ourselves at home, so when we get back, we can put those in the jar, too. That way, whenever we need a little "Disney Magic", we have to look no further than the shelf above the fireplace.
