Just wondering if anyone has been to Disney during the summer months? If we can find some cheap flights out of Maine, I may take my neice down to enjoy the 4/7 deal in July. I know it will be hot but is it unbearable? Any info would be great.

I've been there twice in the summer and it is HOT. We went the last week in June, 2004 and the beginning of September, 2001. If you can go back to your hotel during the hottest hours and swim, it's tolerable. The crowds are usually heavy since kids are out of school. I personally won't go during the summer since I love it there in November.
Hope this helps! :3dglasses

We go in the summers since we like to be away for two weeks and not take our daughter out of school. Take advantage of the morning hours/EMH hours in the evenings, and plan for a swim/rest away from the parks in the afternoons. We're not "commando" style tourists anymore but we do make good use of fastpass wherever it's available.

There is often a brief rain in the afternoons in the summer ... not long enough to spoil the day but annoying if you're caught out in it and soaked!

We travel to DW twice a year spending Xmas there as well as end of June/early July. Both times are great for different reasons. We love the summer heat and we adjust our days accordingly. We like to do the parks early in the morning and late in the evening and spend mid day relaxing by the pool and in the shade. During the Xmas trip you have to pack for two seasons unlike the summer when you know the temperature is consistent. I beleive it's a personal preference. Our two sons 11 & 12 enjoy both trips and do different things based on the temperature. The parks are busy both times of the year but if you take advantage of extra magic hours and hit the parks Early in the day you can avoid a lot of the crowds. Have Fun!

We went in August 2 yrs ago and I have never been so hot in my life! We were so hot we barely ate! I would have thought that with the heat, the crowds would be less.....but no. I remember it being 90 at 11pm at night and that was the coolest it got! We stayed at Fort Wilderness and we would do it again, but I could have fried an egg on my forehead!

We have been in July once, August twice, and we are going again this coming August. Yes it is hot and humid but it isn't that bad. The temperature never really changes so you don't have to constantly adjust. Take advantage of the afternoons for some down time and there are plenty of covered attractions that can get you out of the sun.

The crowds are big but to be honest, we have never had a problem with them. On average, our waits have been in the 20 to 30 minute range.

We have been 3 times in the summer and are going again this August. Yes, it's very hot and humid but everyone has a different tolerance of heat so only you know how well you manage in hot temps. We love the water parks and hanging at the pool so we love the fact that it's guaranteed to be swimming weather ( Florida is so hit and miss during the fall, winter). I love the fact that packing is so light and easy in the summer because we don't need to pack any long sleeves or pants!

We did a late June and early July trip back in 2006 - and have never done it since...

Let me preface by saying I actually enjoy the heat and humidity our summers bring; since I'm by no means a fan of winter! However, there are plenty of people who do not like the sticky days - and these are my top two reasons for not going back to Disney in the summer...

1. People not used to heat and humidity get very irritable.
2. Line ups can be very long, and combined with the heat - makes for unhappy parents and kiddos. (One day we waited upwards of 40 minutes for It's A Small World).

If you enjoy doing the parks in the early morning hours, then like the pools or waterparks for afternoons - then I think the summer is an ideal time to visit. Just remember to keep hydrated and eat smaller meals - your body will thank you for it!

We have been three times in the summer months and twice in Sept. and yes they are hot but atleast your not at home wishing you were at WDW........

We've been twice in late August and the heat was definitely very present, but it was bearable. Be sure to bring lots of water and a small handheld fan would be nice while waiting in line... also I'm not sure if it's a possibility for you, but if you can I'd go in late August. It's MUCH cheaper and the crowds are significantly lower since many US schools start back up in August.

We've done July and August many times. Even last year over the 4th of July, which was shoulder to shoulder crowds. So avoid that one. We go to the parks early morning and then back to the resort around lunch time to swim or sleep. Then back to the parks after dinner. It really cools down around 7pm. The evenings are great fun.

We also go to the waterparks a lot. It is amazing how it never seems hot there. For our family, the waterparks are the highlight of almost every trip.

I agree with the PP, go in mid to late August as it is value season. The resorts are cheaper and the American kids start back to school 1-2 weeks before labour day so it's a bit quieter.

My family wen last year at the end of July. It was our first trip to WDW ever. It was hot, but we expected hotter. I think we prepared ourselves for a heat that wasn't possible. So when we got there it wasn't so bad.

I agree..... the first time we went in the summer we completely expected it to be very hot and very crowded. That way you are not surprised and most likely it will not be as bad as you expect.

We have been to Disney the last 4 yrs in July/Aug. Yes it is HOT but we found lots of ways to keep cool. Obviously at the hotel the room, pool or dining hall. At the parks we would go into the stores or restaurants. Also there are places that have fans, shoot out water and things like that!!! We are going again this year July/Aug. I actually get ticked when it is not in the 90's.....:rotfl2:

I think we will brave it if we can get a cheap flight. My neice lives in Alberta but will be in NB with my family for July & half of August so it would be better if we went in July plus the 4/7 deal is just till Aug 15th. Thanks for all your info

Check out airfares from Portland and Manchester as well. We fly out of Portland (direct) on Air Tran and never paid more than $210.00.:goodvibes

We have gone numerous times in the summer. Sometimes in the Maritimes it is the only sun we see:happytv: . I don't mind sitting through a cool (sometimes wet) summer if we know we are heading to Florida in August.:)

SUPER HOT AND SUPER CROWDED!!! We went last July and the avg temp was about 110. It's not a dry heat either anymore. It's humid and pours for about an hour every afternoon. (bring your umbrellas and ponchos) We've been there march break a couple of times and the crowds were much worse in the summer. Even the fast passes were out by 4pm, and the parks were open later. I've never been in a dirty bathroom in Disney ever until last summer, AND I have never had anything stolen out of our stroller until then either. Keep an eye on your stuff and don't leave anything you want to keep in the stroller. We lost a watch that was attached to the stroller and our keepsake disney spray fans (but disney was nice and replaced them because we reported it to security when we noticed it). Won't ever go in the summer again.

We went for 16 days last August (14-30) and with the exception of 3 or 4 days, it never got very hot at all. Having said that, we also had teh tropical storm Fay park over Orlando for the better part of 10 days! (I can laugh at it now) The rain was torrential!

But we are going back again this year in the last week of Aug. We found flight out of Bangor for $165 return!!! I think the total for four of us was $802. Too good to pass up. Couple that with 9 days in Windsor Hills for $715 and it make for a great vacation!
