Anyone go alone with a child ?

i have been taking my dgd to WDW, just the two of us, since she was 2 1/2 and we go almost twice a year. We have stayed at BWI, BC, WL twice and at Animal Kingdom. She tells people that AKL is "our favorite hotel." Going alone with her is one of my favorite things to do. The trips are always all about her from Princess breakfasts and MNSSHP with trick or treating and visits to Santa at the MVMCP. She loves the pools. When she gets tired we go back to the hotel and nap. She is 5 1/2 now and this trip, for the first time, we are bringing her mother with us and going to our favorite hotel, AKL, which she chose. We are both very excited about showing her mama all the things we love there.
Definitely take your DGD and remember you are there to have fun. You will remember it all your life - and so will she.

i went for 6 days with my dgd age 7, my son (her dad) just isn't into disney. he's a full custody single parent and he was working a lot over the summer so we decided that just the two of us would go. we stayed at the poly so i had quick access on the monorail...carrying a sleepy child to a hotel room or on a bus isn't for me at this point in my life. it was one of the best trips i've ever had. we only did adr's for dinners. when making our adr's i gave her 3 choices per night to choose from and i did the same for the hotel so she told everyone she planned our whole trip. we planned the trip pretty much around what she wanted to do including taking swim breaks each afternoon (something i don't usually do but turned out to be good for me). it was a totally different trip and one i'll always cherish. my only negative was that in order for her to handle the long hours without getting over tired we rented a stroller...which i didn't notice as a problem until we got home and my arms were aching quite a bit...i guess i'm just waaaay out of mom practice because pushing that thing did take a bit of a toll on me lol.

i also take the occasional trip with my youngest child, my daughter, now 22, but that's a lot different than going with a child lol but was great at f&w this year.

typical cell phone self photo but as you can see i survived going alone with a child lol. ignore how rough i look...it was typical mid august HOT and grandma's melt in that kind of heat lol.

I took my then 12yo DNiece several years ago after she finished 6th grade. She was very homesick. However, it was her first time away from her parents, first big trip, first plane ride, too many "firsts" I think. On the flipside I am taking another DNiece next summer who will be 6yoand don't anticipate any problems. She and I are together almost every day and it is almost like she is mine. I've taken her to WDW 2x already although with other adults and also took her 1000miles away to visit relatives this past summer for 2 weeks. She has never been homesick or even asked for her parents, not even the first time we took her to WDW when she was 2. The point I'm trying to make is that I think it depends on the personality of the child and how much time they've spent alone with you and have been away from their parents.
By the way the time I took the 12yo we stayed at CBR and were fine. I also stayed there when I took the 2yo. I like the resort. Not sure where we're staying in 2012 yet.

I took my 12 yr old nephew last year and had the best vacation ever! We stayed at PC with the free QSDP. It was so convenient to hop on the busses and just stop to eat when you got hungry. Glad I did it when I did since now he is a teenage boy & Disney is no longer "cool". But I am sure he won't need his arm twisted to go on the Fantasy with me next May!

I took my 12yo Nephew in October and we had a great time. The only thing to consider is what if you became ill, this happened to me but thankfully I did not need admitted to hospital although it was close, luckily I have a friend in St Petes Beach who could have come up if needed to "tween" sit.

I went to Disneyland with my 2-year old niece during the recent Thanksgiving weekend. She was trilled at first but we where only able to get on six rides before she was completely worn out from the long lines. Overall our day was shorter than my normal solo visits but she was trilled to be at the park with was magical for me. I want to take her again during a slower time so we can experience shorter lines and more rides.

Took my DD when she was 8. She was grumpy for 2 days, great for 2 days.

Took my DS in Feb. 2011. Had a blast.

I've taken both kids to Universal and Seaworld by myself. That was alot of fun too.

Taking care of and handling one child alone is easy. I wouldn't worry about it - go and have fun!

It's so funny I see this thread as I was just talking to DH about a "girls only" weekend. DD will be 11 in June and I would love for it to be just the two of us. Must be fate to see all the great responses!!
