Did anyone else receive their Kindle Fire today? From the threads here on the Budget Board, it seems like a lot of people ordered them.

I pre-ordered last month, and actually decided to cancel since I figured the Fire is a duplication of my iPad. But, I forgot to cancel until it was too late. Since it has a 30 day no questions asked return policy, I decided to open it up and play with it before I send it back.

It's a REALLY cool device, especially for only $199. If I didn't already have an iPad, I would definitely keep it.

My mom got hers. I was playing with it last night. I did have a little trouble setting it up to my wireless network, but I finally got it.

So, how does it compare to the iPad? I also had one pre-ordered but then cancelled because my mom said she already got us an iPad as a family Xmas gift. I really was tempted to just have it delivered to check it out before sending it back but I decided that wasn't fair to all those who are patiently waiting for one. I am hoping I made the right choice to go with the iPad!

Got mine yesterday and it seems great. No trouble setting it up with the wireless nextwork and the Amazon Prime is a good feature. Works good and works quick - everyone in the family likes it. :cool1:

I just ordered mine last night after reading tons of reviews. I had been casually looking at an ipad and had almost bought one a time or two, but I always backed off. The Fire sold me. I only wanted a device that I could web surf, watch movies and read on that was larger than my iphone but still really portable. This thing will fit in my purse. And since I didn't want or need the extra features on an ipad it was a no-brainer at $199.

I bought one for my stepdaughter for Xmas this year, with a cover and screen protectors.

I had been wanting to get her an ipad but it was above this year's budget. I hope she likes it.

Just got the 3 I ordered. They are Christmas gifts, I am hesitant to take them out of the box, because then I will want to keep one for myself. :lmao:

Mine got a lot of use yesterday as I was figuring things out. DH kindly waited until today to steal it so he could compare it to his Ipad2. :rolleyes1 For what I need, I'm pleased. It's bigger than my Itouch which is nice because I like to check the weather, late night news etc... before I go to sleep and the larger screen size is friendlier on my eyes. Most of the apps I regularly use on my Itouch are available (weather.com, Pandora, Facebook etc...) on the Fire and it's really easy to purchase and download them from the Fire itself. It came already registered to me and it went on our wireless network without any problems. The clarity of the screen and colors are good, so no complaints there. The Netflix streaming is good, but our wireless was being slow so the buffering wasn't great, but when the wireless was cooperating, the picture was nice.

It's heavier than my Kindle so my brain keeps getting confused when I pick it up and it does fit in my K3 M-edge case (but I'm getting it a purty case of it's own). It's much lighter than an Ipad2 and slightly harder to type on, with the letters being a bit smaller. DH has a fancy stylus for his Ipad and I've been using that if I want to write more than a sentence or two. He says it's not as responsive as his Ipad, but I can't tell. I'm not in love with the carousel idea. I like my books with my books, my music with my music and it bothers me when they're all jumbled up on the main screen. I miss my collections and I really want to be able to put my Kindle book collections on the Fire.

Overall I'm happy. I don't want/need a camera on it, and it's a great size to fit in my bag. I'm an Amazon junkie so I like the ease of use and how integrated everything is, but I know it's not for everyone.

Plus Bejewled 2 is the free app of the day!

I would love to hear some reviews ... I was planning to buy my husband an IPad for Christmas, but I'm not really sure what he would do with it that he can't do with his IPhone or computer. Plus, I'd love to save the money :)

Mine is arriving this afternoon! Can't wait! I was shocked it shipped so quickly as I just ordered it the end of last week!

I got two of them as Christmas gifts for my kids. They arrived today but I haven't opened them yet. I was debating whether or not I wanted to open them and have them set up and ready to go before wrapping them for Christmas or if I should leave them in the original packaging for the kids to open.

We purchased one for each of our grandchildren and they all arrived today. I did open them up to make sure they turned on since Amazon has a 30 day return policy and the kids won't get them before Christmas. There was no need to charge them up as they come already charged enough to turn on. All worked and I was able to set the time before turning them back off.

I was impressed with the color screen and was even able to access the DIS easily from the Fire. They do not have a lot of memory and no camera (you can store up to about 10 movies before the memory is full), but those limitations and pretty minor considering the cost is less than half what an iPad or Xoom would cost. For playing game apps, email, browsing and reading/storing books the Fire seems to really meet it's promise. Storage )(data) management will be a good lesson for the kids to learn. :)

Mine is scheduled to arrive on Friday, when we return from our trip; I didn't do expedited shipping for that reason. I'm excited to get started using it and only wish I could have taken it on this trip. But my iPad and K3 are doing an excellent job for me too! :)

I'm thinking of gettnig DH one for Christmas. Is this something he could bring on a trip and write a trip journal on? If so, can it easily be printed at home?
Sorry I sound like an idiot! I don't know much about the kindles other than that people use them to read books. I'm starting to feel old! :sad2:

Wow; that is fast! I pre-ordered mine on October 23 and it is not expected to arrive until Nov. 25 (choose free shipping). Did you pay extra for shipping or did you choose the free shipping?

We had the free shipping and the original delivery estimate was for 11/23. On Monday (the day before the official release date) I had an email that ours had shipped that day with expected delivery on 11/16 - so our free shipping was only 2 days! :) (Of course, it helps when you live 30 miles from an Amazon shipping warehouse.)
