We're starting to look into getting our basement finished and were wondering about how much its going to cost. We're not to the point yet of calling actual places to get estimates, so I thought maybe someone here could give us some idea. Also, we need to figure out exactly what we want. So far we know, not too many rooms, just open, but we'll have tv area, play area, exercise area, bathroom(rough in is already there), bar area(still deciding if we want a built in bar), some carpet, some laminate flooring.

So, does anyone have any advice or guesses on pricing, etc? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm not sure how much it'll cost you, since it's hard to estimate. It depends on where you live, what types of materials you use, and if you're going to do any of it on your own.

We are in the process of doing our basement. We've got it roughed in, and are about read to do the drywall, but it's the middle of summer, and since we are doing it ourselves, time isn't as easy to come by as it was in spring, when we started. It's alot of work, and it'll take more than 1 or 2 people to do it if you do it yourselves.

Maybe someone else here will have more insight than me. Good luck! I'm sure it'll be worth it when you're done!

Just don't put red shag carpet on the walls and on the bar. :teeth:

I have contractors down there now actually. We built our home about 5 yrs ago and decided this was the year to finish off the basement and sunroom. We had the same contractor who built our house come back this year because they are so wonderful. We then decided to repaint the upstairs area again (since the painters were already here). Our walls have already faded greatly due to the sun and our numerous windows. So our cost is really up there now. But I will check w/ DH to find out what our basement alone will cost. We will have a bar area, a workout area, and a bathroom, but it's pretty big in all. Our bathroom alone will cost around $1500 for the cabinet, fixtures, and toilet. Sorry I couldn't help you more, but I will try to find out for you. :wave2:
