Trying to plan a trip and am thinking that the AKL and wondering if the AKL would suit for all or only part of the trip. Do people find that the savannah views lose their novelty after a day or two? Looking for opinions.

We stayed there for a few days and at first we only saw the long horned ox, and a few gazelle and wildabeast. The next morning we woke up to see 3 giraffe and zebra walking about then a few ostrich came by. You will not become "bored" with them. How often can you look out your bedroom window and see wild animals...we'll besides a squirrel or two! (hee-hee)
The resort in general is FANTASTIC. My husbands favorite and he is pickey! The aromas, the views, the decorations, the pools, the little nooks and crannies that you find to just sit in a comfey chair and relax, the fire pits both inside the hotel as well as outside, the resturants, all to me are worth it!
We are looking at booking there at the :cloud9: end of August!

Not for us. We couldn't wait to see the animals every morning and evening! The kids really liked it.

I have to agree with Destination Disney. We never became bored with the animals. In fact, we ordered room service every morning so that we could eat with the animals out on the balcony. This is still my DH's all time favorite resort. The rest of the family has fallen in love with the Poly but he keeps saying...NO! Remember the AKL? You won't get bored. Enjoy!!

AKL is Great!! You won't get bored. We stayed for 8 nights and loved being there that long. In fact we spent extra balcony time on our check out day because we knew we were going to miss watching the animals so much.

Have Fun!!

Every time we returned to the room, my dad made a bee-line to the balcony to "see what the animals were up to". We never tired of watching them -- they were endlessly fascinating! My parents are usually pretty big TV watchers while on vacation. I don't think we turned on the TV once during our 5 day stay. Watching the animals was so much more interesting!

but I can't imagine getting sick of seeing those beautiful animals right outside my hotel room. Or anywhere else for that matter. I'd grow sick of seeing people before animals.

Asking if "Anyone get sick of the animals at AKL?" is like asking if anyone gets sick of going on rides at WDW!!! No way!!!! ::MickeyMo As stated earlier in this thread, if you somehow lose interest if watching the beautiful giraffes, zebras, etc., the resort has so many other great things to do!!! You'll be just fine, I promise.

We stayed at AKL on our last trip, me, DH, DD's 11 and 2 (at the time) DD's friend and my parents and I can honestly say none of us got sick of looking at the animals. We all absolutely loved the resort and our view. It was wonderful.

I will admit it. "gpt sick" is a little tough, but the novelty definatly wore off after 2 or 3 days.

On the 4th day, it was like...meh, look another giraffe.

I am happy we stayed at AKL, but do not care to do it again any time soon. The negatives of how far away it is and other little things, far away outway the animal factor.

Do AKL 1 time, and move on to better deluxe resorts. Our favorute so far being beach club / yacht club.

We never got tired of watching the animals. The fun thing was watching their daily feeding patterns. It seemed like they had a specific job and they went about it in the same manner each day. Enjoy! :)

We are fortunate to travel to WDW several times each year and stay in a variety of resorts. We spend a LOT of time at the resorts and enjoy sitting on our balcony/patio and enjoy the "Disney" atmosphere.

We have never become sick of the animals. Even if on the multiple times when we didn't have several animals within our view, we still love the serene atmosphere of the savannah. :wave2:

no way, just watching our little ostrich scurry back and forth each day made me smile, and when we were there the 'teen' giraffe's were trying to work out who was boss. The sounds of 'bashing necks' would even tear my partner away from ESPN!!! - who knew giraffes fought?

For us the answer is no. The view does not lose it's novelty. We have stayed at the AKL five times since it opened and never get tired of the view. We love animals and are from a city so just being able to sit on the balcony with a drink or a cup of coffee and watch the family of antole cattle graze or the tommies run by is truely a relaxing experiance for us.

I havent been there yet but it looks like the majority feel that the novelty does not wear off.

The best thing I could equate it to would be, "Do you get bored at the zoo?" I never tire of walking through the zoo up here and seeing all of the animals. Now picture having the Africa Savannah section of your nearest zoo right outside your window and decide if thats something you would get bored with or not. Some people get very bored of ocean views, and I know, blasphemy right? But water simply doesn't suit everyones tastes, just like animals would not.

Best of luck deciding! :) Perhaps you could split your resort stay just in case or try a pool view if you are concerned about the novelty wearing off? That way you can still walk around the rest or the resort but wont see them enough to get bored. :) Happy vacation planning!

This would sum up my opinions of the AKL. I really enjoy a resort with beautiful grounds you can stroll through, so while this resort is unique and fascinating, I did not want to stay there very long.

I like a resort with a lake, fountains, lots of landscaping.

You would never get bored looking at the animals. But it is best to spend time talking to the CMs to get a more in depth perspective regardings the animals and their habitats. It makes your view of the animals even more interesting.

AKL is our favorite resort and I love sitting on the balcony and watching the animals. I can't imagine getting sick of it, but we have been to WDW many times and enjoy spending a lot of time at our resort. If you plan to spend a lot of times at the parks and want to be close to everything then maybe a split stay would be a good idea.

littlegreydonkey - I agree, watching the fighting giraffes is amazing. I can't believe the way they swing those long necks around! (by the way, are you anywhere near Wanaka? DS is planning to spend the summer (your winter)there at Snow Park. The pictures I have seen look beautiful!!!)

I usually stay at AKL at least a couple days during our trips (we stayed put at BC last November, but that was unusual) and I think I would feel out of the loop if I stayed at AKL a whole trip. I absolutely love the resort--it's my second favorite after GF, but I miss the MK or Epcot area after a few days at AKL. So my answer would be that I don't really get sick of the animals per se, but I do feel a little too remote from the rest of the happenings at WDW to not split a stay with AKL and another MK or Epcot area hotel. :flower3:

It depends on if you like animals or simply find them a novelty. Most AKL lovers can sit and watch the animals, appreciate their beauty and grace in a natural environment. If water sprites and surrey bikes are your whats appealing, this isn't your resort.
